Towers is a promising survival game with a unique approach to the genre. However, the developers have not been heard from since July 2019 – until now. It is said that in 2021 more information about the game will finally be released.
What is Towers? This slightly offbeat survival game revolves around the towers that bear its name. They are at the center of the game and are maintained and expanded by 15 to 25 players per server. They also serve as a base for exploring the surrounding world.
After the world was abandoned for unknown reasons by your ancestors, you are tasked with restoring it. Instead of simply plundering and taking what you want, you must pay attention to the ecosystem. Make sure that the animals are comfortable and that forests can grow, or you won’t advance yourself. Key features include:
- no PvP, you play cooperatively with other players
- a realistic eco-system. If you greedily wipe out a plant species, all animals that feed on that plant will die
- strategy and building, you continuously develop your base
- agriculture and fishing are important pillars of your existence
Graphically, Towers draws heavily from the Zelda series, particularly from Breath of the Wild. Other inspirations include the well-known anime Princess Mononoke and various tribal cultures. Towers is one of the hidden gems in our list of the best survival games on MeinMMO.
“Dead” game suddenly resurfaces
Here’s what it looked like at Towers: Towers is being developed by the small indie studio Dreamlit and made its last official post on social channels in July 2019. At that time, it was just the resolution of a giveaway. Previously, the “Prototype Trailer” was released in March 2019.
Since then, nothing has been heard from the developers, and many interested parties have already written off Towers.
Here’s what the developers say now: Right at Christmas, on December 24, a new tweet suddenly appeared, in which the developers wished a Merry Christmas and referred to their official Discord.
There, a larger announcement can be found. According to this, the developers want to be “more talkative” in 2021 and reveal more about Towers. Additionally, a new producer has joined the team, who is supposed to publish posts and comments and leak some screenshots.
Although there is not yet a new trailer, it seems that more information about Towers will finally be coming soon. 2021 appears to be a good year for survival fans in general. Because another survival game has also resurfaced: Sons of the Forest has released a new trailer and is apparently coming out in 2021.
