In The Pale Beyond, you find yourselves on the ship Temperance and embark on a journey to uncover the disappearance of the Viscount.
Because the ship Viscount had sailed through the so-called Pale Passage on its way to the South Pole 5 years ago. After that, the vessel and its crew were never seen again. Now it is up to you to unravel the mystery surrounding the missing ship.
The game is a purely single-player title and is also verified for the Steam Deck.

What does the gameplay in The Pale Beyond look like? You embark on a journey into frosty areas. However, you find your ship stuck in the ice.
Additionally, the captain is missing from your crew. Now your leadership skills are needed: Manage your scarce resources and maintain a balance between safety and morale among your crew. Also, make sure that both the people and the sled dogs are kept warm enough.
However, your title of captain is not guaranteed. The crew can choose who they want as the leader of the expedition. Always ensure that you have as many votes on your side as possible. Each crew member has their own character with individual motives and backgrounds.
Every decision has consequences. So think carefully about what the next step in your expedition should be.
What is the thought behind the game? According to PCGamer, the managing director of Bellular Studios, Michael Bell, says: “It’s brutal. Our job is to put someone in this precarious situation. If the gameplay mechanics do their job, they [the players] will have to make a difficult decision, and they will also understand why it’s so hard.”
Thomas Hislop adds: “Every decision has a face, so we wanted to make sure that you don’t make a decision that decides life and death without literally looking the person in the eye or connecting a real person with the consequences of the decision.”
When will The Pale Beyond be released? The planned release date on Steam is February 24, 2023. However, you can already download the demo for The Pale Beyond on the Steam page and test the game.
