Survival MMO with 47,000 players had to leave Steam due to a lawsuit, is now back, begins testing

Myth of Empires was playable on Steam for a short time in 2021, then it disappeared. However, those few days were enough to prove significant interest. Now the survival game is available on the platform again and aims for the 1.0 release in February.

What kind of game is this?

• Myth of Empires is a survival sandbox game that can roughly be described as Conan Exiles in ancient China.
• The game features siege battles, character progression, skills and talents, and free construction of the environment.
• Additionally, there are strategy elements in the form of clans that wage war against each other and NPC companions that act as troops.

When can I play Myth of Empires? Those who already own Myth of Empires can play it right now. It is currently in Early Access.

If you have not already purchased the game through its own shop, you currently cannot buy it anymore. The price is, according to the latest information, €30.

The team is currently planning a playtest that will run from January 23 to January 30. You can sign up directly on Steam for that.

The 1.0 release is scheduled for February 5. Additional features are expected to be added to the game, such as aerial combat using balloons and facilities for city defense.

Lawsuit Bans Myth of Empires from Steam for Years

Myth of Empires has actually been on Steam since 2021 and has since earned “mostly positive” reviews with 76%. Back then, it could already attract over 36,000 players, peaking at over 47,000 (via steamcharts).

However, shortly after its release in Early Access, there was a dispute with the creators of ARK: Survival Evolved. They accused the studio behind Myth of Empires of stealing source code.

As a result of the dispute, Myth of Empires was eventually banned from Steam and could no longer be purchased or played there. The developers circumvented the ban with their own shop in early 2022.

However, the sandbox MMO has been available on Steam again for a few months now and is also offering the upcoming playtests there. In October 2023, the dispute was resolved and all parties have jointly stated that they are working together on the release. We will check whether Myth of Empires can make its way into our best survival games for PC, PS5, and Xbox.
