SCUM is a survival MMO where you must face the brutal struggle for survival. But it’s not enough just to eat and drink; you also need enough teeth!
The survival MMO SCUM by Gamepires and Croteam appears at first glance to be just another survival shooter with a battle royale approach. You will be set as a prisoner on an island and must survive. The whole thing is presented as a kind of game show. The more popular you make yourself with the audience, the better bonuses await.
This isn’t really new, but SCUM has a few twisted features in store.
More than just eating and drinking
Almost all survival games have a hunger and thirst display. Anyone who doesn’t regularly consume food will eventually perish, even if they possess powerful weapons and gear.
This also holds true in SCUM, but here it doesn’t matter what you eat. While in games like Conan Exiles you can survive for months on turtle eggs and insects, in SCUM you will eventually suffer nutrient deficiencies. The game could just as well be a body simulation for extreme self-optimizers!
Only those who eat well will be strong fighters
Through an implant at the back of your avatar’s head, you can read complex data about your body at any time. This includes heart rate, pulse, blood oxygen saturation, and nutrient supply.
Basically, you could survive on just about anything, but if you want to specialize your hero in muscles and endurance, then it needs to be a high-quality diet full of proteins and carbohydrates.
Vitamins should also be sufficiently present. In your body data, you can check at any time how you are supplied with which nutrients.
Take care of your teeth!
An apple a day is optimal to keep your body strong. But if you want to bite hard, you need your teeth! Unfortunately, they’re not guaranteed, because if you get hit hard, you might lose valuable chompers.
If too many teeth are missing, you can no longer chew solid food and must liquefy it and slurp it down. A serious disadvantage that costs you time and benefits your enemies.
Death trap toilet!
Also interesting: According to a video announcement, food must come out of your body after digestion. And the less fiber you have consumed, the longer the resulting “sessions” will probably take. And no one wants to be taken out on the porcelain throne.
SCUM is currently in closed alpha and is set to launch into early access on Steam in the coming months.
