The survival MMO Last Oasis has been struggling for survival itself. However, after a significant decline in player numbers, things have looked a bit better lately.
This is Last Oasis: The survival MMO places you on an Earth that no longer rotates and is mercilessly exposed to the scorching sun. An environment where survival is already difficult.
The game had a strong focus on PvP elements, which became problematic. Here you can see the trailer for the current Season 2:
Last Oasis crashed: While Last Oasis peaked at over 33,000 players in April 2020, it then experienced a hard decline. It looked particularly bad at the end of September 2020, when well 99% of the players had disappeared. The game struggled with several issues. Among other things, gankers made the game unpleasant for newcomers. The developers had previously shown confidence despite the problems. And now Last Oasis is actually seeing somewhat better numbers again.
Last Oasis improves
How it went recently: If you look at the Steam charts, you can see that Last Oasis has seen a slight increase. Already in October, there was a small rise, and then November and December saw significant growth. In the last month of 2020, the average was 2,390 players, with a peak of 4,383 players.
This increase is likely due to the launch of “Season 2”, which came with a server wipe and made extensive changes to the game. Among other things, the trading system was adjusted so that small groups with less power found an alternative way to compete with larger player groups.
In January, the game dropped again on Steam by about 550 players on average, but Last Oasis continues to try to improve. A new, extensive patch was released, focusing primarily on fixes and improvements to the game. The developers also worked on balancing and improved some animations, such as explosions.
Additionally, the patch notes point to a new map that is set to be released alongside the Xbox launch. However, there are no details yet on how this map will look.
However, it shouldn’t be long before there are updates – as Last Oasis is expected to be fully released for Xbox consoles in the first quarter of 2021. It will be playable on both Series X|S and Xbox One – and will offer crossplay with PC.
