Coreborn: Nations of the Ultracore has been in Early Access since July 18 on Steam and is based on a pen-and-paper adventure created by former Rocket Beans member Hauke Gerdes. The survival MMO takes place in the open world of Tormentosia, where the last remaining nations are at war against the world-devourer Sorgoth.
What is behind Coreborn?
- The game is being developed by the international studio Blankhans, where Hauke Gerdes serves as Creative Director
- The story revolves around the last six nations maintaining a technology called Ultracore to confront the villain Sorgoth. The world was nearly destroyed, and it is up to us to rebuild it.
- The game features classic survival and RPG elements such as building, crafting, and action-based combat. We gather resources to craft weapons, equipment, and food. This allows you to survive in the hostile world.
- With the materials, we can also build a city that we can expand over time. For example, you can build houses or erect thick city walls for defense.
In the following video of a three-part developer interview, the city attacks are presented in more detail:
Once you have expanded your village, Sorgoth’s minions will begin attacking your home. Enemies appear in waves and must be defeated by you.
To avoid facing the monsters alone, you can invite friends (or even strangers) to your server. To do this, you visit the hub called Coreheim, where all players gather. There, you can look for skilled comrades or just trade with them to obtain essential resources.
However, it’s not only Sorgoth’s minions that you need to worry about, but also common survival-game factors like hunger, thirst, and the weather.
Hostile players are not a problem; PvP is not present. The developers emphasize that meeting a stranger should always be a positive experience. You share resources when you chop down a tree together.
We have already been able to test Coreborn and will share our opinion about the game in the following article:
What about the release? Coreborn has been in Early Access since yesterday and is currently available with a 24 percent discount. The title now costs only 18.99 Euros instead of 24.99 Euros.
The full release of the game will be Free2Play and will feature an in-game shop containing purely cosmetic items.
The team aims to work closely with the community during the Early Access phase and implement fan feedback. The developers estimate that the game will remain in Early Access for about one to two years.
