Myth of Empires received surprising acclaim from survival fans on Steam. Shortly after its release there, it had to leave the platform again. Now it is back – officially and with its own shop.
What happened to Myth of Empires?
- On November 18, 2021, Myth of Empires was released in Early Access on Steam. Shortly after, the game disappeared without a trace from Steam.
- The reason became clear shortly after: it was allegedly accused of stealing the source code from competitor ARK: Survival Evolved.
- The dispute escalated further, ARK even filed a huge compensation lawsuit. Myth of Empires defended itself against the allegations and simultaneously launched the game itself.
Where can I get Myth of Empires now? Since March 1, the “International Vanguard Edition” has been officially available in the studio’s own shop. The prices are supposed to match exactly those that were previously on Steam, and there is even a discount right at release.
The release follows the test of the own launcher from January 17. At that time, however, the keys were limited. Now the international version has officially been released and is available for purchase.
- You can find the official shop for Myth of Empires here
In addition to the standalone version, there are new servers and numerous new content such as building parts, mounts, and events. This should please many fans, as Myth of Empires still has thousands of players on Steam.
Myth of Empires is strong on Steam, even though it is not being sold
How is Myth of Empires rated? A rating can no longer be read on Steam because the game simply no longer has a shop page. However, the statistics page steamcharts continues to track the player numbers.
According to this, in February 2022, there were still over 11,000 players peaking and over 7,000 on average. While that is only about a quarter of the players at release, it is still a solid amount considering that the game is no longer for sale.
What kind of game is this anyway? If you haven’t heard of Myth of Empires: You can roughly imagine the game like Conan Exiles in ancient China. However, the game scales much larger.
In my review of Myth of Empires, I was able to engage in survival, crafting, and character building. All of this is quite classic for survival games. However, later on, there are dynasties that you build, siege battles, and real player-led empires.
A special focus is on the combat system, which considers the direction of an attack – like in Mordhau or Mount & Blade. There is even a certain strategy game aspect in the game through NPC companions and fortresses with buffs.
If the international Vanguard Edition can prove itself, it is quite possible that you will soon find Myth of Empires in our list of the best survival games for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
