V Rising has been a huge success since its release in Early Access 2022. The 1.0 version is scheduled to be released in May, shortly after the release for PS5 – exclusively on consoles. Even now, 2 years after its release, the game has over 6,000 players on Steam.
What kind of game is this?
- In V Rising, you play a vampire who has lost his power and must regain strength.
- During your journey, you build your own castle, hunt for blood, materials, and servants whom you can bend to your will with your magic.

When is V Rising coming out? The 1.0 release of V Rising is scheduled for May 8, 2024. The PS5 version is expected to arrive later this year, but there is still no specific date for it.
Since May 17, 2022, V Rising has been in Early Access and has been receiving patches and updates, even getting a major expansion featuring Frankenstein monsters.
With the 1.0 release, additional features will be introduced to the game, including:
- a new zone, the ruins of Mortium
- the final chapter of the story
- endgame events
- new enemies and bosses
- new weapons
- improvements for building, magic, and more
- native controller support
A strong mix of combat and survival
On Steam, V Rising has already received a “very positive” rating with 88% positive reviews. What excites most players are the freedoms that V Rising offers. Especially the ability to build and shape real vampire castles and the different ways to engage in combat appeal to the players.
V Rising employs an isometric action combat system, somewhat similar to Diablo. Stunlock Studios, the creators, have previously worked on Bloodline Champions, which was acclaimed for that very combat system.
It is also well received that you get to play the “other” side of survival games. As a vampire, you are the threat and hunt humans. The night is not more dangerous but the only opportunity for you to go outside at all, as the sun burns you. In most games, it is the other way around.
The biggest criticism is that the game requires a lot of grind. Mainly later in the game, you need a lot of materials to sustain yourself or expand further. Here, you need to tweak your server settings to save time – which is not possible in public games.
You can play V Rising either alone, in co-op on a local or rented server, or on official servers with others. However, the game relies on PvP, at least in many settings, which could particularly deter new players.
