We at MeinMMO wanted to know from you how Destiny 2 should handle the unique Exotics in the future. Our survey shows that this topic is very controversial among you.
About this survey: The powerful Exotics enjoy cult status and every season brings new specimens. In the current Season 10, you can earn a total of 150 exotic weapons and armors – thus, Destiny 2 matches up with the original Pokémon.
We wanted to know from you how Bungie should handle the special items in the future. Our survey asked: “Do you prefer new Exotics in Destiny 2 or more love for the old ones?” In this article, we will look at the answers from MeinMMO readers and their comments on the matter.
This is how you voted: More than 1,700 readers have participated in the survey since March 8. Each person could vote for one of six options.
The distribution looks like this today (March 19):
- I want fresh, new, and creative Exotics (40 %)
- The outdated Exotics should be refreshed (19 %)
- Bring more old classics back, as they were in Destiny (15 %)
- Destiny 2 needs more exotic masterpiece catalysts (14 %)
- Bring back more old classics, but adjusted for Destiny 2 (10 %)
- None of the mentioned options, see comments (2 %)
The majority of you wish for new Exotics in Destiny 2 that you don’t already know from the predecessor Destiny 1. 668 readers, or 40 %, think so.
Interestingly, you are divided on the returning Exotics from Destiny 1:
- 256 participants want Bungie to integrate the classics from back then unchanged into the current version Destiny 2.
- 175, however, voted for the old Exotics to be adapted to the new conditions of Destiny 2 before they can come back.
The majority of you wish for fresh wind in Destiny 2 through Exotics. KingK, however, expresses like many other readers:
“I wish for new, creative ones. There are so many that are useless. From D1, they can gladly bring back more PvP maps.”

Some readers go even further, saying that the current number of Exotics is sufficient for them. They would prefer other content:
I don’t need any more Exotics at all. I prefer more other content like a new strike or something. I have enough weapons and usually find Exotics boring.

If you combine both options, the desire for returning Exotics takes the 2nd place in the voting with 25 %.
Between Nostalgia and the Desire for Power
This is what you say in the comments: Under our survey, you diligently exchanged thoughts in the comments about the situation of the Exotics. It comes to light that there is not one or right way in which Destiny should handle this topic in the future.
Some of you wish for powerful, unique, or dominant Exotics. This is echoed by reader Andreas Straub, when he writes: “We need ‘stand-out nails’ again – as Bungie has nicely put it. Weapons that are something special.”
Others among you wish for the powerful Exotics of days gone by to return. Especially Titans mourn their Dawnbreak Guard. Some Guardians admit, however, that while they miss the once-great pieces, they should remain in the good memories of Destiny 1:
I miss many Exotics from D1 Hawkmoon, Fatebringer, Atheon, … but I am absolutely against them coming back. Because D2 will simply devalue them, and most will end up in the vault, and I want to keep them in their old state in memory.
