Currently, Sunset Rangers is an MMORPG that aims to bring fresh air to the genre.
In this MMO, you are neither in a colorful fantasy world nor in a grim science fiction or post-apocalyptic scenario. The Wild West is the theme! You try to survive on randomly generated maps, as survival elements play an important role in the online game. This means that in the desert, you must ensure you have enough food and water, as well as avoid freezing in the cold of night or suffering a heat stroke under the scorching sun.
Sandbox and Graboids
Sunset Rangers fully embraces sandbox elements. You don’t follow a story but write your own. Therefore, crafting plays a significant role. You can find resources all over the world, which you use for making equipment, clothing, or weapons. It is even possible to craft unique weapons that have special abilities. PvP also plays a big role, and if you die in a duel, it’s best to have stored and hidden your most valuable possessions in a chest beforehand, otherwise you’ll start over from scratch.
Supernatural elements also come into play, as gigantic worms inhabit the maps, living underground and resembling the Graboids from the film series “Tremors – In the Land of the Rocket Worms.” Therefore, it is very dangerous to venture out into the desert to search for buried treasures. Furthermore, you will be able to take over forts from NPCs and use them as a base.
Bounty and Private Servers
You create your hero from different classes, such as Gunslinger, Blacksmith, and Civilian. If you want to play a bandit, you can do that too – but be careful when killing players and NPCs. This is usually not without consequences, and a bounty can be placed on you. Every player can also set up their own server for the game, which will then offer different maps like other servers.
The developers of the sandbox survival MMO Sunset Rangers are currently trying to gather the necessary votes through a Steam Greenlight campaign to release the online game on Steam. It is currently in pre-alpha, and a trailer sets the atmosphere.
