Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League casts a dark shadow. The loot shooter is considered a flop by Warner Bros. – and disappoints.
In recent weeks, some really strong games have been released. Whether it’s Palworld, Helldivers 2, or Nightingale, players are currently being offered some impressive gaming content.
However, one game that aimed to be a big hit ultimately has not succeeded. The loot shooter “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” wanted to convince with an interesting approach but has lost a significant part of its already small audience. In fact, Warner Bros. Discovery says that the “expectations have not been met”.
What was said? In the earnings call of Warner Bros. Discovery, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was discussed. The game clearly has not achieved what was hoped for. It is mentioned (via Seeking Alpha):
This year, Suicide Squad, one of our key releases for video games in 2024, has fallen short of our expectations since its release earlier in the quarter, prompting us to prepare our video game business for a tough year-on-year comparison in Quarter 1.
What about the game? Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League also has the misfortune of having to compete with an almost unattainable “predecessor.” Last year, Hogwarts Legacy was released in the same timeframe and, despite some controversies, the game was a mega-hit, selling more than 22 million copies according to Warner Bros. and becoming the “best-selling game in the entire industry worldwide.”
Even if you try not to measure the current Suicide Squad game against such giants, the picture is likely quite bleak.
A look at the current Steam charts (as of: February 24, 2024, 1:00 PM) shows how the loot shooter is really doing:
- The all-time high of 13,459 concurrent players was reached immediately after release.
- Since then, interest in the game has steadily declined.
- In the last 24 hours, around 900 people have been active in the game at peak times.
For a game with a live-service concept, this is far too few active players to justify significant further development of the title.
The future of the game is likely hanging in the balance, even though there are no clear statements regarding this yet. Whether Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League can recover from this low point is indeed questionable.
Have you played the loot shooter and still enjoy it? Or did you move on after a few days?
At least there is still hope for the “Suicide Squad Isekai” anime.
