The moderators of the subreddit of Battlefield 5 have had enough of posts about historical accuracy – and now threaten with penalties.
What happened? EA and DICE have decided that women will play an important role in the upcoming WW2 shooter Battlefield 5. Some players, especially on Reddit, are unhappy with this decision and are complaining. They are also not happy with the prosthetic arm that was shown in one of the trailers.

This brings up many discussions: In the subreddit of Battlefield 5, everything is currently about historical accuracy. Why that is good, why that is bad and who even needs it.
But that is now over.
Moderators say: Enough with the bullshit
The moderators of the subreddit published the post “We’ve had enough, stop it. New rule: No more whining about historical accuracy. It’s a game, not a history book. Violations of the rule will have consequences.”
In summary, the moderators believe that the community is not capable of having a reasonable conversation about “historical accuracy.” Many have expressed criticism of the features and keep doing so in threads of the subreddit. In most cases, this escalates and ends with insults.
“Hate us as you will, but we have had enough of this bullshit.” In an update, the mods made it clear again, “We are not paid or controlled by EA and DICE and are not affiliated with them.”
Nevertheless, they give users another opportunity to talk about the topic of “Historical Accuracy.” In a mega-thread that was created specifically for this purpose. It has already accumulated 600 comments.
What led to this new rule?
In the past few days, more and more threads from users dissatisfied with the policies of EA and DICE have appeared on Reddit. In their opinion, women should not be in Battlefield 5.

There was this thread from a user who introduced himself as a historian. In his post, he complained that he was labeled as “uneducated.” The background is the statement of EA’s COO Patrick Söderlund, who said that it is the uneducated people who complain about women on the front lines.
The end of the story, which no one could foresee, is that the Reddit user was not a historian at all. He also did not attend the school he mentioned. And well, the Reddit thread has now been deleted. But you can read it on ResetEra.
