In line with the release of WoW BC Classic, a well-known YouTuber has created a video summarizing the pre-patch and release night. He captures the situation so well that it almost hurts.
This is the video: YouTuber Captain Grim uploaded a new video today, on June 1st at around 4:00 PM German time. It is a so-called machinima, an animated video that uses models from World of Warcraft.
Captain Grim is known for repeatedly producing such machinimas, which often parody situations in WoW. This time, he has taken the behavior of players or problems in the game as his subject.
The new video begins with the “landing” of the Draenei on Azeroth. The new Alliance race crashes with a spaceship – apparently because their leader, Prophet Velen, does not have a driver’s license…
Afterward, Captain Grim moves on to parody the past two weeks since the pre-patch on May 19th, processed with humor and wit but also a good portion of criticism – especially aimed at the players. We have embedded the video here for you:

What are the problems? The video addresses two points that have been repeatedly discussed in the community – even before Burning Crusade:
- lack of social interaction
- and the so-called “dungeon boosting”
In dungeon boosts, lower-level characters are “pulled” through an instance by higher-level players. Typically, they stay at the entrance while the booster – usually a mage – gathers and kills the enemies in the dungeon.
As a result, the characters being boosted gain experience for doing nothing, while the boosters usually take a considerable amount of money for it. This method is convenient and lucrative for boosters but has some downsides:
- experience with one’s own class and equipment is neglected
- one doesn’t really “play”, but lets others play for them
- players prefer to get boosted rather than do something with others
Ultimately, this also negatively affects social interactions, as Captain Grim shows in the video. A new player tries to find a group – but the other prefers to get boosted. Thus, hardly any new groups or acquaintances are formed.
Further issues arise, such as the killing of quest givers (especially on PvP realms) or the likely overcrowded release, which have almost become part of the DNA of World of Warcraft.
Where does this mindset come from? The pre-patch was applied two weeks before the release of BC Classic and already brought with it the new races of Blood Elves and Draenei, as well as the ability to boost a character to level 58.
However, this boost does not work for the new races. Players wanting to play Draenei or Blood Elves had only two weeks to level the new characters. For this, they sought the fastest and most convenient ways: dungeon boosts.
How useful they are is debatable – in any case, one could have made it without such practices. Because in Burning Crusade, the experience needed for levels 20-50 has been reduced, and the experience gained from quests from level 30 has doubled compared to Classic.
Those who started with the pre-patch and leveled somewhat “seriously” reached level 58 easily by release night, without having to pay other players for boosts. And along the way, they may have even made new acquaintances who will accompany them through dungeons in Burning Crusade when the boosters can no longer help them.
