Many players are currently yearning for a new MMORPG that captivates them for years. However, no new successful title has been released for a long time. An indie studio firmly believes in the genre and considers it even leading in the gaming market.
What studio is this? Artificial Core is a small studio and is currently working on the MMORPG Corepunk, which visually resembles LoL.
In an interview with Gamespace, the developers revealed that they are big fans of the genre and that MMORPGs continue to play an important role in gaming:
There is a general opinion that the MMORPG genre is dying. Well, we do not agree with that statement. In fact, we believe that the MMORPG genre takes a leading role for all other genres.
We are huge fans of it, and that was the main reason we decided to create Corepunk.
What makes this special? In 2014, The Elder Scrolls Online was the last major MMORPG from the West. Since then, many promising new titles have been developed by smaller studios, but there have been no major releases.
Instead, Asian MMORPGs keep flooding in. However, they usually make the leap only with a significant delay and then do not succeed. One of the biggest negative examples was Bless Online, which arrived late and was quickly discontinued. However, titles like Revelation Online or Astellia also failed to achieve great success.
Corepunk aims to change this. The game already offers a lot of humor in the first trailer and also utilizes the ISO perspective, which is otherwise known from Hack’n Slays. However, the combat system and the overall content are intended to resemble a classic MMORPG.
Large and open world, which is always shrouded in fog
How is the MMORPG structured? Corepunk features a large and open world that you should be able to explore without loading times. A unique aspect is the fog of war, which repeatedly covers areas of the map that you have already visited. This way, you should always be on an exploring mode.
The MMORPG also offers you:
- 4 unique races: Elaniens, Faidens, Quaddari, and Yorners
- 12 heroes with different skill trees
- Various gathering and crafting disciplines
- Randomly generated dungeons and raids
- Guilds
- Various quests and much lore
- Open world PvP that rewards killing others with an honor system and aims to protect weaker players with a karma system
Additionally, Corepunk is supposed to give players a lot of freedom, but within prescribed limits. Players should have the option to grind, quest, or reach the level cap through other means. However, they should not take the enjoyment of the game away from less experienced players.
When does the beta for Corepunk start? Currently, there is no fixed timeframe for when the beta of the MMORPG is supposed to begin. According to the developers, Corepunk should be in a good state before they let players in.
- Another very ambitious MMORPG didn’t even make it to beta. It closed its doors in March 2020.
