On a website, Funcom Oslo, the studio behind Conan Exiles, is advertising the unveiling of a new Conan game. What you can expect from the new game can be found here.
This is happening right now: On the website “conancountdown.com”, a countdown is ticking down, which will expire on Saturday, December 8th at 10 AM PST (7 PM in Germany).
At the end of the countdown, there will be a “Showcase” on the Twitch stream of Kinda Funny Games, where a new Conan game is set to be revealed.
This could be the new Conan game
What we already know: In the financial report for the first quarter of 2018, Funcom talked about the current status and outlined future plans. Two of these new plans involved new games in the universe of Conan the Barbarian.
The announcement of the new games came shortly after the successful release of the survival game Conan Exiles, which Funcom “saved” with its release “saved”. Both games are under the auspices of Funcom Oslo, which will also conduct the upcoming reveal.
These games could come: Funcom has also provided some concrete information about the two potential games.
A Petroglyph project:
- Petroglyph is set to be the developer of a new game set in the Conan universe.
- Petroglyph is a strategy game developer known for creating Star Wars: Empire at War and Grey Goo.
- The game is expected to be released in the first half of 2019.
- More information is expected to come “shortly before the launch.”
A Funcom project:
- Funcom Oslo itself has a new concept for a “Conan the Barbarian” game.
- The pre-production is said to have started in the second half of 2018.
- A specific date is not known.
What we suspect: It is likely that both games will be announced this coming Saturday, as they seem to have already moved well beyond the mere planning phase. However, it speaks in favor of the Petroglyph project that a release timeframe has already been announced for the game.
What exactly the two games will be remains uncertain. Given that Petroglyph is known for strategy games, a Conan RTS could emerge. This is also supported by the fact that Funcom already has an MMO with Age of Conan and a survival title with Conan Exiles.
The second project is still a bit more unknown. It is possible that a new MMORPG will be released. After Age of Conan mobilized players again at the beginning of 2018 with “Saga servers”, this could pave the way for a new Conan MMO.
