Playing MMO games does not make one stupid, but improves English skills in students. This has been found by a Swedish study.
Swedish sixth graders were studied by the University of Gothenburg and Karlstad. The researchers focused on how the children use the English language in situations outside of classroom instruction. They found that the sixth graders who spent part of their free time playing English-speaking computer games were significantly better in this area than their peers.
Especially the students who participated in MMOs were even further ahead. The reason for this, according to a researcher, is very logical: “As a player, you simply have to understand what is being said around you, so you need to be able to write and read in English to communicate.”
