Apex Legends has a hacker problem. Games in high-ranked matches and rounds with well-known streamers are often severely hindered by hacker attacks. However, a team stubbornly pushed through and won despite massive interference. What exactly happened, you can find out here on MeinMMO.
What was the situation? Players CLT Greek, C9 PVPX, and C9 knoqd were playing in a high-ranked match of the ranked play in Apex Legends and it started off poorly. There were massive spikes of lag repeatedly. Clear signs of severe server problems, likely resulting from a DDoS attack, namely a hacker attack on the server.
The consequence was that the game ran basically in slow motion and was interrupted repeatedly by massive lags. Not something one likes to experience.
What is a DDoS attack? DDoS stands for “Distributed Denial of Service” and refers to an attack on a server that is bombarded with countless targeted requests until it collapses. Such attacks are standard in the repertoire of malicious hackers who want to ruin the fun for others this way.
DDoS attacks are a big problem in Apex Legends
How did it turn out? Usually, players take the final consequence and blow themselves up with a grenade or similar to put an end to the misery. Nobody enjoys trundling through a map on a DDoS server.
However, one loses valuable ranked points in such cases, which can be massive at the higher levels and even lead to rank loss. The three players probably did not want to risk that and so they actually suffered through the map on the hacked server for almost an hour and completed the match.
The unusually long game time was due to the attack, as everything was slowed down by the many lags, making the game duration much longer than a regular Apex round should actually take. This way, the three players involuntarily set a dubious record.
Why are such DDoS attacks carried out? DDoS attacks seem to be quite common in the high-ranked games of Apex Legends, especially streamers report that their matches regularly become targets of malicious attacks.
Additionally, the server performance in the current Season 10 was not exactly commendable, and many players complained about issues with the current server performance.
Another hot topic affecting Apex Legends this season was the removal of a special movement mechanic that professionals particularly liked to use. Because PC players had an advantage through the so-called tap-strafing, which is now being removed: PC players dominate in Apex Legends because of a feature – that’s coming to an end.
