For Pokémon GO, the GO Fest was apparently a resounding success. Not only did the numbers in the game soar, but revenue increased as well.
Such a successful GO Fest: As Niantic announced, millions of players from 124 different countries and regions participated in last weekend’s GO Fest. This made it the first truly global GO Fest. Even MeinMMO editor Alexander Leitsch was pulled back into the game.
According to Sensor Tower, a total of 17.5 million dollars (about 14.9 million euros) is said to have been spent over the entire GO Fest (via gamesindustry). The spending was distributed as follows over the two days:
- Saturday is said to have generated 8.9 million dollars (about 7.6 million euros) in revenue.
- Sunday under the banner of Team Rocket was at 8.6 million dollars (about 7.3 million euros).
Players are said to have not spent as much money on a Saturday in years. GO Fest Saturday was the most lucrative day since July 29, 2016, when players spent 13.3 million dollars (about 11.3 million euros).

Nearly a Billion Caught Pokémon
The numbers from the GO Fest were as follows: Niantic announced in a blog post what the trainers accomplished at the GO Fest. Almost a billion Pokémon were caught. But that’s not all:
- 58 million Team Rocket members were defeated.
- 55 million gifts were sent.
- On average, each trainer walked 15 kilometers.
In another post (via Niantic), the developers further explained that they wanted to give something back. It had long been known that Niantic wanted to donate 5 million dollars of the proceeds. However, due to the tickets sold, they are now raising this to 10 million dollars.
As part of the GO Fest, players could also secure Articuno, Moltres, Zapdos, and Mewtwo – all in their Shadow forms. Trainers are now warning: One should possibly wait with the proceeds from the monsters.
