Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp is the biggest Twitch streamer for League of Legends. He just took a 6-week break to master the jungle in LoL. Now he is back and says: He lost about 15,000 subscribers. Tyler1 is outraged about his disloyal fans.
This is Tyler1: The impulsive LoL streamer is actually a pure bot laner in League of Legends. For a long time, he was only known for his gameplay as Draven. With that, he was considered an exceptionally strong player.
On Twitch, Tyler1 has been incredibly successful for years, although or precisely because he is regarded as so toxic that Riot banned him from LoL for years: At the end of 2019, he played LoL like crazy to reach “Challenger” and briefly became the number 1 on Twitch, but he also went even more insane than usual.
Tyler1 is not only a strong player but also a talented entertainer. Here he plays the role of a horrible loudmouth who insults everyone, puts them down, and considers himself God’s gift to humanity.
In January 2020, he announced, as usual in “all Caps”: Jungle is the best role in the game, but it is played by the worst players ever. None of them are good at LoL.
Tyler1 does everything to become “Challenger” as a jungler
This is why Tyler1 took a break: Tyler1 started playing only jungle in the last few months. His goal was to climb from “Unranked” to Challenger. It was already a great spectacle in February when Tyler learned the “Jungle” position.
By mid-April, Tyler1’s ambition was so great that he continued to play LoL but no longer streamed it on Twitch.
At that time, the streamer averaged about 25,000 viewers, whom he simply no longer entertained.
At the end of May, Tyler1 actually managed to climb to “Challenger” as a jungler.
This is what he says now: After 6 weeks of break, Tyler1 celebrated his comeback on Twitch on June 1. He explained that during his break, he lost 15,000 subscribers. Assuming that a subscriber brings him $2.50 monthly, this would be a loss of about $56,000. However, the actual financial losses were likely much higher, as Tyler1 also missed out on donations and advertisement revenues from his Twitch streams.
Tyler1 is upset in the stream – as is his style – about how disloyal his fans are. They would just forget to renew their subscription with him, but they would think about their “Xbox Live Subscription”; he says in (apparently feigned) outrage.
He says that there are a lot of “fake fucks” here: Anyone who subscribes anew should just leave.
Tyler1 plays LoL, skips Twitch despite averaging 25,000 viewers
This is what it’s about: Everything Tyler1 says should be understood as fundamentally ironic. He must have known that his subscribers would dwindle if he was not seen for 6 weeks.
But it shows how important it is for Twitch streamers to be constantly present. This creates the pressure to always stream and exploit themselves, a concern many streamers complain about. Especially those who cannot take it as humorously as Tyler1.
Interestingly, Tyler1 continued to play LoL like crazy, but simply did not stream it anymore.
This shows that in this case, it was actually more important for him to achieve his goal in the jungle than to earn money on Twitch and entertain his viewers.
The Twitch streamer DansGaming once explained how hard it is to consistently pursue a career on Twitch and what it means for private life.
