The Twitch streamer Asmongold specializes in World of Warcraft. At the moment, he is once again immersed in WoW Classic, where the expansion “Burning Crusade Classic” has been released. In a Twitch clip, viewers can now watch Asmongold attempting to bargain for an item with a friend, albeit unsuccessfully, but with a lot of enthusiasm.
This is Asmongold: The approximately 30-year-old American is somewhat of the “King of Nerds” on Twitch. According to his own statements, he has spent the last 15 years doing little else but playing WoW. Thanks to Twitch, he lives excellently from it, with an estimated net worth of around 2 million or 3 million US dollars, according to US sources.
His greatest time on Twitch so far was in the fall of 2019, when WoW Classic became a surprise hit on Twitch: At that time, hardly any new games were released and Asmongold reigned as the biggest streamer on Twitch for several months.
Even now, Asmongold is trending again with WoW Classic: The Burning Crusade, after he harshly criticized Blizzard for the state of “Retail WoW” in the past months.
This is the item in question:
Asmongold is in a 5-man group in the dungeon “Auchenaikrypta” when a crafting pattern drops. It is the recipe for tank plate gloves of level 70. Nothing special, really.
But Asmongold immediately explains:
I need that. It has a 1.8% drop chance. I had that back in Vanilla BC. It’s the best way to level blacksmithing.

Shouting, begging, threatening – How pros negotiate for items in WoW
This is his negotiation tactic:
As soon as the item drops, Asmongold notices that his friend, the paladin McConnell, is also eager for the crafting recipe. As soon as McConnell realizes that Asmongold is keen on the item and lays claim to it, McConnell yells at him to get lost.
Therefore, Asmongold demonstrates excellently how to convince a teammate in WoW to give you the item:
- The most important thing is to keep shouting “Need, need, need” to make it clear that you really need the item.
- Asmongold then logically explains why he needs the item: “This is simply the best way to level armor crafting.”.
- If you recognize another bidder who also wants the item, show your own desperation and make a baseless threat, saying you might “turn on master loot” (which is not actually possible).
- Then, highlight your own privileges: “I found that back in Vanilla WoW,” to make it clear why you deserve the item more than anyone else, after all, you had it 15 years ago.
- Now, doubt the other person’s right to even roll for the item: “Did you also find that in Vanilla WoW?”
- If the other still insists on their right to roll for the item, make another wild threat: “I swear to god, if I lose the item, then…”.
- If you actually win the item when rolling, bask briefly in the glory of it and celebrate.
- Before in the final step you rub the win in the other person’s face: “Hey, if you need anything, I’m crafting that now to level armor crafting…”
Friends argue over item in WoW Classic – a typical “MMORPG” experience
Why is the Twitch clip so popular? The clip from Asmongold has already garnered over 85,000 views. The viewers had a great time during the live stream, enjoying the show that Asmongold and McConnell put on.
It’s a delightful video because both are equally agitated as soon as the item drops and they both ramble at each other like a machine gun, without paying any attention to what the other is saying: Because both immediately know they will roll “Need” on the item and fate will decide then.
The clip is an excellent example of how harsh it can be among friends in WoW, without anyone taking it too seriously. For many, it’s precisely such little situations that make the charm of an MMORPG that you play together with friends.
One of the nicest stories about Asmongold in recent years was his collaboration with the streamer Pink Sparkles:
