Former Twitch streamer Philip “DSPGaming” Burnell, also known as DarksydePhil, talked on YouTube about how he prefers to receive donations, even though he had only received about 300 euros through YouTube memberships previously. MeinMMO reports on what happened.
Who is the streamer?
- Burnell has been creating content on YouTube for 12 years. Initially for fun, but now he calls it “his business.” He currently has 198,000 subscribers on the platform.
- In the meantime, DSPGaming also streamed on Twitch and has over 100,000 followers there. However, they reportedly removed his partner status because he tended to engage in hate speech. He issued an ultimatum to them, demanding a public apology from Twitch; otherwise, he would permanently switch to YouTube.
- He is currently streaming on YouTube and is considered a poor gamer in his community. Additionally, his content and the atmosphere tend to be rather negative. He often asks for donations from his viewers.
- Even now, DSPGaming emphasized that donations are very important to finance his life. This came shortly after he had received only about 300 euros.

How does a membership work on YouTube? On YouTube, viewers can subscribe to memberships that correspond to Twitch subscriptions. The YouTuber sets the prices for these memberships. Prices can start from 0.99 euros upwards for various contributions.
The share that a YouTuber receives varies somewhat, but one can expect about 60% that the content creator receives from a membership.
What about DSPGaming? The streamer has 3 memberships to choose from:
- 3.99 euros
- 9.99 euros
- 19.99 euros
In 24 hours, he received 100 memberships on YouTube as donations. It is said that 400 US dollars, about 378 euros, were generated. The occasion was that he received the feature recently – fans were happy for him and wanted to support him with this.
What did the streamer say about it? DSPGaming thanked the supporters and said: “Didn’t I tell you that this would happen? I knew it and thank you, guys. Thank you for fulfilling what I expected.” He mentioned that he already knew he would receive so many memberships.

However, he needed to make one thing very clear: “I need to emphasize something, okay? Donations are very important for me and my business.” The streamer then listed things he could directly buy or spend donations on:
- New games
- Things for his business
- Nintendo Online
- His groceries
- Food with his wife
DSPGaming hopes that his fans will not just give away memberships and then forget to donate. That would put him in a “bad situation.” Subsequently, his viewers wrote “lol” and “lmao” in the chat, and he asked: “Why are you laughing?” threatening to end the stream.
To be honest with you, and if you think this is funny – that’s ridiculous. What is wrong with you? I’m telling you that I can’t afford anything on my day off, on Tuesday, if I only get memberships this weekend.

Furthermore, he insulted the people a few times who really find the situation funny.
Burnell reiterated that the money from the memberships would only appear in his account in 1–1.5 months, but he had things he needed to pay for now. He encouraged people to donate, especially those who had done so in the past.
He ended the stream with donated 31.24 euros.
