The WoW streamer and YouTuber Preach is currently taking his first steps in Final Fantasy XIV and recently got a glimpse into the role-playing scene of the MMORPG. He attended a party for the opening of a club and was thrilled.
Here’s the situation in short:
- In recent months, many streamers and YouTubers have started with FFXIV. Some of them had previously played WoW intensively, including Preach, who was a passionate WoW player for many years, alongside Asmongold and Belullar.
- His first opinion on the MMORPG was mixed. While he loved the game’s story and especially enjoyed the big finale in Patch 5.5, he was absolutely not convinced by the gameplay.
- Now, Preach was invited by some FFXIV players from the role-playing community to witness the opening of a nightclub. They wanted to show him how FFXIV players celebrate in-game.
And this opening left a strong impression on the streamer.
Hundreds of players and a real DJ
This is the location: A few days ago, something big was happening at the European data center Chaos. The nightclub Black Sapphire on the Moogle server invited all players to the grand opening party, and it was quite an event.
For the opening, a large house in the housing area Kelchkuppe, owned by the free company “Gem,” was appropriately decorated and furnished.
- There is an entrance area with reception and cloakroom for guests
- Relaxation area with hot baths and individual rooms for players
- In the basement, there is a dance area with a stage for performances and a bar where players can order drinks
In addition, the nightclub has a whole team of staff to take care of the guests. It starts with doormen and receptionists, goes through waiters and bartenders, and ends with dancers who performed a show for the guests on stage.
According to the club team, about 200,000,000 Gil was spent on the setup. For many players, that’s an astronomical sum of money.
This is how the opening party went: Even before the party started, a huge line formed at the entrance. Hundreds of players showed up for the opening, some were local to the Moogle server, while others came from other servers in the Chaos data center.
At some point, the location actually reached its limit and could not accommodate more guests because there is a cap on the maximum number of characters for housing in FFXIV. Accordingly, the party was moved outside, and the players celebrated in the garden of the house or in the center of Kelchkuppe.
Additionally, there was even a real DJ who played live on Twitch during the party. The streamer djMAnnmade (via Twitch) played remixes of popular tracks from FFXIV like “Shadowbringer” or 90s hits like “Blue” by Eiffel 65.
The party lasted over 6 hours, and many players wrote in the nightclub’s guestbook to thank for the cool experience and left nearly 1,000 likes:
“I can’t express how cool it was.”
This was Preach’s reaction: Before the opening, the organizers of Black Sapphire contacted Preach’s team and asked if he would like to join the celebration and stream it. He accepted the invitation because he couldn’t imagine what an in-game party would look like.
In a video, the long-time WoW streamer and YouTuber Preach describes his experiences at the party and at times is so thrilled that he struggles to find the right words.
There were an absolutely insane amount of people dancing, having fun, and partying. There were the best Mogs [meaning glamours] I have ever seen […]. It was really crazy; people were having an incredible amount of fun while this great music was playing. And it went on for hours. I must say: incredible and immeasurable fun.
In the gaming community, role-playing in MMORPGs is often associated with “ERP” (erotic roleplay) and therefore evokes some negative associations for some players. Preach was among them. According to his own statement, he expected simply sex and poor ERP at the event.
Accordingly, he was greatly surprised by the party and the diversity of role-playing. The streamer recounts that the celebration calmed down after some time and the guests simply continued with their RP:
- There were people who were just chatting normally in groups,
- the classic Lalafell dance circle,
- people cosplaying as Elvis, Jaina from WoW, and the streamer Dr. Disrespect,
- people pretending to be drunk,
- a bouncer who escorted drunk people out,
- a suspicious guy apparently selling drugs, and much more.
For the streamer, it felt like a real, genuine party. Just with more giant Chocomoppel heads and frog costumes. You can watch Preach’s complete video here:
And even though Preach himself didn’t participate much in role-playing, he was overwhelmed by the general atmosphere and the number of participants. He was grateful to the organizers for the experience because he had never experienced something like this in any other MMO, according to Preach in his video.
In the end, he noted that he definitely wants to experience such a party again. The New Year’s celebration was mentioned as a possibility.
Have you ever participated in role-playing in an MMORPG or even attended such a party? How do you feel about Black Sapphire and the party held there? Let us know in the comments.
In another stream, a controller modder demonstrated his skills in FFXIV with a Ring Fit:
