Streamer PaladinAmber regularly battles sexist remarks from trolls during her stream. However, she takes it with humor and ruthlessly exposes the troublemakers in a humorous way.
Who is it about? The Twitch streamer PaladinAmber has, like many female Twitch users, regularly faced guys in her stream who come at her with stupid, sexist remarks. Frequently, they ask if she will show her breasts or if she can meet users for dates and one-night stands.
While such behavior unfortunately seems to occur frequently and often goes unpunished, PaladinAmber has developed an effective method to put trolls in their place.
She humorously exposes them and verbally dismantles them with mockery.
Fake News Overlay Against Sexism
This is how the streamer deals with trolls: Often, trolls and stupid remark-makers on Twitch are ignored or quickly return after a ban. Either with a new account or by simply harassing other streamers.
PaladinAmber, on the other hand, believes that it is much more effective to expose and mock the trolls. Then they often realize how inappropriate their behavior is and may change.
This is how the streamer does it: Whenever someone makes a stupid remark, for example, wanting to see her breasts, she switches to a new overlay. For the breast request, it was a telemarketing screen. There she “sells” for 19.95 the option to open a new tab in the browser and see tons of online boobs. Just for 19.95!
Another time, she uses a kind of breaking news overlay to expose a user who asked if she was bisexual or single. Immediately it turned into a breaking news segment where she announced the following:
“I am a female being on the internet, but I don’t want to date any of you. This just in: It is really possible that people on the internet do not want to have horizontal tango with each other or with any of you. Therefore I now announce, it’s none of your damn business! It doesn’t matter. I’m a buddy-girl on the internet and if you like my content, then you can hang out here. You can even subscribe to me. You can not do that and still hang out here. That’s cool too. But don’t ask me about my sexual preferences or dating!”
Does the Tactic Work?
This is how the trolls react: Overall, the behavior of the troublemakers on her channel has become less toxic, says PaladinAmber via Kotaku. She believes it is more effective to show people their behavior than just to ban them. One troll even apologized and said he wants to improve.
On the other hand, there are also some guys who enjoy being the target of PaladinAmber’s overlay attacks in her stream. They then come into the chat and intentionally say the most disgusting things just to see how she reacts.
But even here, people tend to ask for quirky instead of deeply offensive things, for example, asking the streamer to show her feet.
PaladinAmber also states that while her tactic is effective against trolls, certainly not every streamer is emotionally stable and quick-witted enough to pull this off constantly.
