The Twitch streamer Ludwig Ahgren (25) has embarked on a marathon stream that he apparently no longer has under control. He has been on air for more than 21 days and has received almost $900,000. The Twitch chat simply will not let the timer tick down to 0 seconds.
This is the idea behind Ludwig’s Subathon stream:
- On a Sunday 3 weeks ago, Ludwig started his Twitch stream. A countdown is running: When it ticks down to 0, the stream ends. But every subscription increases the timer by a few seconds.
- By now, the stream has been running for 518 hours, which is more than 21 days.
- According to fan reports, Ludwig has earned about $896,620 during this time – alone 159,380 paid subscriptions have come in.
For days “only 5 minutes left”
This is how the stream is currently running: When the stream started, the countdown had a significant buffer of hours. At times, so many subscriptions came in that the streamer would still have been on air for over 80 hours if no one had donated anymore. But they kept donating.
Those times of abundance are over. For the past few days, the stream has reached the minute mark, and it often looks as if the stream is about to end before another donation pushes the timer up.
In extreme cases, the timer dropped to 48 seconds – before someone finally stepped up and donated more money to keep the stream going.
So far, two fronts have formed on Twitch:
- Some write #”FreeLudwig” – saying the stream should finally be allowed to end
- Others shout #KeepLudwig – he should stay on air for as long as possible. “Ludwig is not your friend,” they declare as a slogan.
Ludwig announces the end of his stream “only 4 minutes left”, but the chat simply does not allow it:
64,000 watch sleeping Twitch streamer
What is Ludwig doing? Ludwig is doing what he normally does in streams: He plays and talks on Twitch. He has talk rounds with his friends, pranks in the kitchen, and interacts with his fans.
Otherwise, he lives his life in front of the cameras: He even sleeps on Twitch. The streamer has arranged his day so that he gets enough sleep and does not stress himself too much.
However, the stream is also taking its toll on him. He has no more plans and does not want to plan anything anymore. He says: He expects that the Twitch stream can end at any moment, so he is already thinking about what he will do when the stream finally ends.
But the stream just won’t end. The fans won’t let him go offline.
Even when he sleeps, like right now, donations keep coming in that keep the timer up. Currently, 64,000 people are watching him sleep.
Ludwig says: He plans nothing anymore because he thinks it’s finally over, and then he ends up being on air all day and night:
The stream also has a “hard end limit” – Ludwig wants to maintain the marathon stream for a maximum of 31 days. Then it will finally be over.
If the “only 5 minutes left” stretch indeed lasts over 10 days, he has a point in time to look forward to.
Apparently, Ludwig is not getting rich from his stream, as he calculated how much he can keep from the money. Currently, the accounting stands at about $160,000 that he can keep from the $898,000. His fanatic fans calculated that:
