Cheaters are usually annoying individuals who can ruin the fun of the game. However, a pro managed to defeat such a cheater in Destiny 2 – quite decisively, in fact.
What kind of cheater is this? The cheater apparently used several cheats and hacks like an aimbot and faster firing as well as a glitch.
Instead of simply dying normally, he reappeared just inches from where he died. So he has an immediate respawn right where he stands and is practically impossible to kill.
The cheater thus bypasses the limited lives that a team has. He essentially has infinite lives, making a defeat nearly impossible for him.
Pro meets cheater and still wins
This is how he won: In a match, the cheater faced the streamer, pro gamer, and YouTuber ZkMushroom, who is known as an exceptionally skilled PvP player.
ZkMushroom and his team simply did not give the cheater any time to make something useful out of his respawn. When they found him, they pressured him in a group of three and repeatedly took him down.
This led to ZkMushroom himself having 153 kills and his two teammates 125 and 114 kills by the end of the match. One of his colleagues had the highest kill streak with 107 kills without dying.
The victory was ultimately achieved by ZkMushroom suppressing the cheater with a “Tether” and killing him multiple times. The suppression prevents players from using abilities, which likely contributed to the exploited game mechanic no longer being effective. However, he cannot explain exactly how that works.
This is what he gained from it: Through the cheater and his victory, ZkMushroom not only amassed many kills but also earned medals. Some of them are extremely rare and virtually impossible to obtain through normal means:
- “Seventh Column” for killing seven opponents in a row (there are actually only 6 opponents available, you need luck with the respawn) – was already considered the “holy grail” in Destiny 1
- “We Ran Out of Medals” for killing 20 guardians without dying
- “[Insert Medal Here]” and “I Made This For You” for killing 50 opponents without dying
Especially the last medal is actually a joke, because it is drawn by Lord Shaxx himself and shows a poor, childish picture. It is presumably not intended for anyone to obtain the medal, hence the joking name.
Community reacts with humor, cheaters remain a problem
This is how other players react: In the comments under the video, other players respond with humor. User ErroneousE warns that Bungie will probably now ban ZkMushroom’s team because they cheated to earn the medals.
User Carlos Rodriguez jokingly notes that it wasn’t a cheater at all, but a Sunsinger. This class could self-revive in Destiny 1 with its super.
The problem with cheaters: ZkMushroom himself encountered another cheater who “curses” his opponents and kills them after he dies around the same time.
In April 2019, Bungie wanted to address the cheaters, but apparently they are still a plague. Now, at the beginning of 2020, the problem is being addressed once again:
