The Fortnite streamer Ben “DrLupo” Lupo raised money for a children’s hospital on Twitch throughout 2018. He and his wife raised over a million dollars for the cause, mainly through Fortnite.
Who is DrLupo? The Fortnite streamer and family man is known for regularly hosting donation streams.
It is common for streamers and YouTubers to attract negative media attention, but in DrLupo’s case, there are some good news this time.

What happened? In 2018, DrLupo set a goal to donate at least one million dollars to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which specializes in treating kids diagnosed with cancer.
DrLupo and his fans raised a total of $365,000 during GuardianCon in Florida in June 2018. Combined with the donations already raised at that time, he reached a total of $611,000.
An additional $140,000 came from the sale of the “Build Against Cancer” shirts.

The final part of the donations was collected by DrLupo on December 23 during a 24-hour stream with his community. On that day, gamers from 85 different countries donated $659,000 to support sick children, bringing the total donation amount to approximately $1.4 million.
The streamer himself said:
One of the best things about being a streamer is being able to see how great communities come together and then work with those communities to help others […]
He and his wife were very emotionally moved by the success and thanked the donors for becoming “a part of something bigger”.
What do the hospital representatives say? St. Jude’s Hospital is very grateful for the generous donation and publicly thanked DrLupo on their Twitter. Richard Shadyac, the CEO of the hospital’s official fundraising organization, stated:
The total amount raised of over one million dollars is just one of the milestones that make him a role model among his gaming friends.
Thanks to donors like DrLupo, the families of the children at St. Jude have never received a bill.
But you don’t have to be a streamer to bring joy to your community:
