The streamer Timothy Betar is a successful streamer on Twitch as TimTheTatman. The now 34-year-old became known to a larger audience in 2017 when he played the shooter Fortnite in the group of the then superstar Ninja and often had to endure jokes. But times have changed. In the new hero shooter Marvel Rivals, TimTheTatman is now twice as big as Ninja on Twitch – and better.
This is how TimTheTatman became famous: TimTheTatman has been a streamer on Twitch since 2011 and has been doing it full-time since 2014. He achieved some success with CS:GO and Overwatch in 2015, attracting around 8,500 viewers.
However, TimTheTatman really took off in 2017 with Fortnite when he played in the realm of the then hyper-successful streamer Ninja. There, the grizzly and somewhat clumsy streamer was often the target of Ninja, the star of the time, who made fun of TimTheTatman’s mistakes.
“Timmy” always seemed to be one step slower than his agile partner and kept hearing jabs. Of course, it was all in good fun. TimTheTatman had to put on a brave face.
But people began to really like TimTheTatman, and while Ninja’s star faded, TimTheTatman became increasingly popular as the “grumpy dad who is slowly going bald“, and switched to YouTube for a lot of money.
By now, TimTheTatman is much bigger than Ninja on Twitch
This is the current dynamic: The lucrative exclusive contract with YouTube expired in September 2024, and since then, TimTheTatman has been back on Twitch.
But times have changed:
- In the new game Marvel Rivals, TimTheTatman is now the big star and averages 16,000 viewers there. After shroud and the specialist Necros, who puts in many more hours in the superhero shooter, TimTheTatman has the third most viewer hours in Marvel Rivals on Twitch.
- Ninja, on the other hand, the former superstar, only has about 8,000 viewers. He ranks 15th.
In a recent livestream, TimTheTatman was asked after the Christmas break that Ninja would like to play with him again, but TimTheTatman apparently has had enough:
Tyler is asking about me? No, let it go, buddy. I’m not reacting to that at all. […] You can tell him I said: No, let it go […] I don’t want to start my day and my first stream like this. Let it be. Tell him I said it like that.
Ninja recently complained that his friends just don’t want to play with him anymore.
TimTheTatman is no longer putting up with anything
What’s going on? Apparently, TimTheTatman is no longer interested in Ninja. He says that Ninja called him a “bad player,” but TimTheTatman won’t take that anymore.
Tyler says I’m bad? I’m not going to play with him and I hope to face him in a match so he understands. […] I think he can’t handle that I’m simply better than him in Marvel Rivals.
He was always better than me in every game he played. He is better than me in Fortnite and Halo. But in hero shooters, he is not better than me.
TimTheTatman even goes further, saying that Ninja is probably taking prescription drugs and gaming for 20 hours straight just to have a higher rank than him.
But TimTheTatman has a child – he would probably get cancer if he engaged in that kind of behavior. He can’t do that.
What’s behind this: You never know how serious this is and how much acting is involved, but it seems like TimTheTatman had to endure a lot in the earlier years and put up with what he simply will not accept today.
Ultimately, every influencer who has as much success as TimTheTatman also has a certain ego and pride. The poor man must have had to swallow that for years. Ninja is known for many things, especially his ambition, but he is not exactly famous for high social intelligence. Perhaps Ninja has lost a lot over the years in his ascent.
