The big streamer Asmongold discusses the upcoming changes in Patch 9.1.5 in World of Warcraft – and does not hold back any criticism.
Last weekend, the news about the upcoming Patch 9.1.5 circulated. The patch will introduce a lot of adjustments and innovations in World of Warcraft that players have been wishing for weeks, months, or even over a year. However, not everyone is pleased with the announcements.
The streamer Asmongold is also very angry and expresses his frustration about the developers’ plans.
Who is Asmongold? Asmongold is one of the biggest streamers on Twitch and has even held the number 1 position at times. He is known as a passionate player of World of Warcraft but often critiques the game. Even though Asmongold mainly plays Final Fantasy XIV now, he still comments on World of Warcraft – after all, it is a game he has played for over 15 years.
What does Asmongold say? In one of his latest streams, Asmongold spoke about the official announcement regarding Patch 9.1.5 from Blizzard. The update implements a lot of the feedback that players had provided months or even a whole year ago. Instead of being pleased about it, Asmongold is quite angry, sarcastic, and cynical. Especially the official announcement leaves him dumbfounded.
As a first point, he addresses that players in Patch 9.1.5 will soon be able to switch their covenants without restrictions as they please.
Isn’t that crazy? Do you remember the last 6 months, the last year? That Blizzard told us it was impossible? That they couldn’t do that? And now it is somehow magically possible? Why is that? It’s incredible how far technology has come in just a few months.
Another annoyance for Asmongold is the covenant system. This will soon be relaxed, allowing players with a high renown level to switch freely between the covenants. In the official forum post, Blizzard states that “millions of players experienced Shadowlands for the first time through the lens of their covenant and that would not have been possible if the choice [of a covenant] had less weight.”
Asmongold reacts particularly angrily to this, as he sees a contradiction in the description:
That’s not true at all. That’s such a stupid statement. If you had introduced the system [as planned in Patch 9.1.5] at launch, players would still have experienced it from their chosen covenant because they wouldn’t have had the renown level to switch covenants yet. You don’t even understand how the game works. It contradicts itself in the same text. How can you be so damn stupid? (…) I don’t want to be an asshole here, but that’s just really damn stupid.
In the end, Asmongold lets his dissatisfaction run free once again and summarizes the whole problem from his perspective. He has been unhappy with World of Warcraft for years, although he actually loves the game:
These people are ruining my game. I’m fed up. I’m tired of accepting bullshit. I’m tired of beta testing a system for a year with each expansion. (…) Still, I keep playing because I love the game. I started with Warcraft in 1997 or 1998. I was a little kid; I love the game. It’s not an addiction; I just love the game and that has never changed. But it’s becoming harder and harder to feel that way.
Does Asmongold even like WoW anymore? Despite all the criticism, Asmongold considers the changes to be good and sensible. Objectively speaking, he says, all adjustments and changes are very good and exactly what helps the game. It is simply sad that they weren’t heard back at the release of Shadowlands.
My main complaint is not that Blizzard doesn’t listen to feedback. Because they do. The problem is that it takes a year each time for it to be implemented. And from my perspective, I also don’t care if they say: ‘Oh, we have a development pipeline and it takes a long time for something to be implemented.’ Okay, then that’s your problem. I don’t give a shit. Just because every change to the game has to be signed off by 8 different idiots doesn’t make it ‘okay’ for me. I just want it fixed.
That is all irrelevant. Every day that it is in the game, it is a bad game. Every day that we have the AoE cap, the game is bad. Every day that we have the covenant feature, the game is bad. (…)
I don’t want to think about the business side of why you can’t deliver a good product. That’s not my job. That’s yours.
