What kind of gifts are we talking about? In Pokémon GO, you have the opportunity to befriend other players and send gifts to each other. If one of the two trainers opens their gift, the game considers it an interaction.
This kind of interaction is very beneficial for you, as it increases your friendship level or you can become Best Friends to Lucky Friends. Therefore, it’s important to play together regularly. But especially opening gifts often leads to conflicts among trainers.
Are there other ways to interact? Yes, in addition to gifts, battling each other or against a raid boss, as well as trading Pokémon, also increases your friendship level and provides for interaction.
That’s why gifts cause conflicts
Every trainer is happy to interact with their friends, increasing their chances of leveling up their friendship or even achieving Lucky Friends status. Therefore, sending and opening gifts is part of the daily routine for many players.
However, this often leads to discussions. The reason for this is the daily interaction. While it is possible to interact with other trainers as many times as you want each day, Niantic only counts the first action between two players as a so-called “daily interaction”.
If you’ve already played with another trainer on a given day, whether through a joint battle, a trade, or opening a package, any further interaction on that day will not increase your friends status.
For this reason, many trainers believe it would be wiser to save the gifts and open them the next day.
Pay attention to daily interaction
I have been playing Pokémon GO daily for over 2 years, and I have experienced this situation countless times. I belong to the trainers who sometimes get annoyed by the thoughtless opening of gifts.
This is mainly because I have a variety of trainers on my friends list with whom I would love to interact daily. However, due to restrictions, such as the limit on opening gifts, it is not always that easy and requires good planning.
If I have already had an action with another trainer, I expect the other trainer to hold onto my gift until the next day. That way, the next daily interaction can take place. However, I continue to experience the opposite. I send a package to a friend and a few minutes later, they have opened it.
That’s why I find the thoughtless opening of packages annoying
But what’s so bad about the other person opening my package? Basically, it’s not a big deal that the package was opened—it can happen. And as long as no interaction has taken place that day, I’m actually happy because we level up our friendship.
However, this action becomes problematic from my perspective when we have already played together that day, and it happens not just with one, but multiple trainers.
This means that for me and the respective affected players, there will be a significantly larger effort for the following day, as ideally, there should be more joint play on that day.
What effort does this mean for me?
So to summarize: The gift that was intended for the following day has now been opened by my friend. Therefore, I either need a new gift the next day, I open this friend’s gift, or I perform another joint action with this player.
Open gift: If I decide to open their gift, I have to leave a package from another trainer unattended, as my limit will be reached too quickly.
Send new package: To send a new gift from my side, I need to collect additional packages the next day, so that I can provide these friends with gifts as planned.
Even if I’m lucky enough to have gyms and PokéStops nearby, especially players in rural areas can quickly reach their limits. This is because you can only have a maximum of 20 packages in the item bag at the same time. Only after they have been used up can you organize new ones.
Other alternatives: If neither of the alternatives is feasible, then the only option for a daily interaction is to battle together or trade. However, the distances to other trainers and the lack of coordination options within the game present particular difficulties.
This can quickly lead to no interaction taking place at all. For this reason, my request is:
Focus on the daily interaction first and then open your packages!

So you recognize daily interaction
In conversations with other trainers and also with a view to social networks, it becomes clear to me time and again that many players do not even know how to recognize a daily interaction that has taken place. For this reason, we have summarized it for you below.
To recognize daily interaction, you first need to open your friends list in Pokémon GO. There, your friends will be listed according to your desired sorting. As you can see in the following image, the image of the respective avatar is displayed in a circular frame.
If a joint interaction has already taken place that day, a light blue glow will appear around this circle. If you haven’t had an action yet, there will be no glow present.
Why is it important to know this?
Daily interactions: On the one hand, this information helps you in your daily interactions with other trainers. It allows you to see at a glance whether an interaction has already taken place that day, and if so, you can save your gift for the following day. If team play is still required, you can open the gift without hesitation.
Friendship level up: But this knowledge is also helpful for the level ups. If you want to use a lucky egg to ensure a lot of XP, then a level up should work as well.
If the other trainer has just opened a package shortly before, it will still show “If you play together for 1 more day, you will…”. However, a level up is only possible the next day since only one action per day is counted. In the worst case, you might use your lucky egg too early, wasting that precious item.
