Fae Farm is the dream come true for MeinMMO author Jasmin Beverungen on Steam. After exhausting climbing tours in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and hours of monster battling in Diablo 4, she looks forward to a relaxed farm life as a fairy.
Do you know the feeling of just wanting to switch off after a long day at work? When I have worked focused all day, I don’t want more input in the evening. If I have been annoyed during the day, action-packed fights can help me release my frustration. But often I just crave a calm, harmonious game.
Currently, I can’t find any alternative to unwind:
- Diablo 4? Well. Killing monsters can seem meditative, but I still feel the stress of watching my health points and gathering good loot when playing constantly.
- Tears of the Kingdom? There is a lot of nature, but the constant urge to explore and collect stresses me as well.
- Forspoken, which I have to work through from my Pile of Shame? Even here, despite the open world, there is no relaxation to be found.
The last title that made me feel like I was on vacation was Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Well, that might partly be because the game was released right in the middle of the Covid19 pandemic and I had a lot of time due to the initial work loss to design my own little vacation island.
But I could experience Animal Crossing at my own pace: fishing, collecting bugs, visiting other islands, and meeting friends became my guarantee for relaxation. Since then, no other game has offered me that effect, but my personal savior might come on September 8, 2023.
Fae Farm is supposed to be my new Animal Crossing
I hope to get the vacation effect of Animal Crossing from Fae Farm. The title seems to have at first glance everything I wish for in a casual game that still doesn’t bore me:
- Cuddly animals invite me to cuddle
- I can grow plants and spend time in nature
- I can let loose in my own home and decorate it as I like
- If I feel lonely, I can invite up to three of my friends into the game
The important thing for me is that the many tasks do not turn into everyday stress and become a kind of to-do list. In Animal Crossing I could decide when to focus on which task. As a result, there were never time constraints and pressure situations, except for the opening hours of the buildings.
The very first trailer of Fae Farm completely enchanted me. I mean, just look at those adorable fairy wings:
Yes, I am into cuddly glitter creatures, colorful rainbows, flying unicorns, and magical fairies. That’s exactly why the first trailers for Fae Farm captivated me so much. The cuddly look, the animations of the figures, and the colorful palette are exactly my childhood dream come true.
The best part is that Fae Farm even includes battles. So if I no longer feel like watering potatoes as a fairy, I can stand up to monsters with my magical abilities.
In combination with the many activities that the game promises, it all sounds like a fun game to enjoy after work. Alternatively, I still have these 5 MMOs as an option:
We might not encounter a complex combat system in Fae Farm that we are used to from MMORPGs. But if I have already strained my brain all day, I don’t necessarily want to learn movement patterns for boss opponents every evening.
All in all, Fae Farm sounds like the perfect mix of relaxing features for me and could be the perfect autumn game for me.
But I guess I have to survive the summer without a relaxing game and reluctantly look for other leisure activities to wind down after work. Maybe the island paradise from Final Fantasy 14 can keep me occupied for now: Final Fantasy XIV: How to unlock the island paradise and other content from patch 6.2
