After a long silence, the upcoming zombie MMO The Day Before is back on Steam, including a release date and a new trailer. It looks quite good, but some players have now noticed a suspicious resemblance to an old trailer of GTA 5.
What’s the deal with the trailer? The highly anticipated zombie MMO The Day Before suddenly disappeared from Steam in January 2023, apparently due to issues with naming rights. At the end of October, the developers returned with a release date and a new trailer that raised hopes among the fans.
However, some Reddit users have noticed a striking similarity to the gameplay trailer of GTA 5 from 2013.

What’s bothering the players? On Reddit, a user pointed out on November 1 a striking similarity between the new trailer for The Day Before and a gameplay trailer from GTA 5. The user “PainComplex” shared both videos with the note that the script and the narrator are nearly identical.
Indeed, the narration in both trailers sounds very similar. Additionally, both mention reimagining something. Ironically, the trailer for The Day Before repeatedly states how unique the game is.

How is it being discussed? Quite differently. Some Reddit users believe that the developers of The Day Before at least took inspiration from GTA 5. However, not everyone finds this too tragic, after all, the marketing for GTA 5 was extremely successful.
Some see no more similarity between the trailers than between other gameplay trailers, while others accuse the developers of having copied from other games multiple times.

Overall, the new trailer seems to strengthen the users’ feeling that something is off with the game. Many are now eager for the release – if only to see if a game will actually be released on the target date, December 7.
