After just one week, the new survival game V Rising is celebrating huge success. Tens of thousands of players, a million copies sold. Now the development team is fulfilling a major wish of the fans by introducing a new feature, just via a hotfix.
What is this feature? It’s about offline play. With the new hotfix, you now have the option to play without an internet connection. Among other places, on reddit, there were often requests for an offline mode; it is one of the most requested features.
The wish has been expressed by fans repeatedly since the release on May 17. V Rising has been very well received on Steam and averages over 95,000 players and peaks over 150,000 (via steamcharts.com).
The excitement was somewhat dampened at release. On the one hand, there were complaints about the game’s time mechanics as well as the online requirement. V Rising could only be played if there was an internet connection.
For players with unstable connections or temporary internet outages, playing was not possible. This was changed with a hotfix on May 25. Now V Rising can also be played offline.

Playing V Rising offline – Here’s how
How do I play offline? To start the offline mode, you unfortunately still need an internet connection first to connect to Steam. Follow these steps:
- start Steam
- switch Steam to offline mode (Steam → Go Offline …)
- disconnect your internet connection
After that, you can start V Rising regularly, but without needing an internet connection. Additionally, you can have a LAN mode this way. If you want to play locally with friends, you can join a shared server with the “-lan” parameter on your server and by checking the “LAN Server” box.
Unlike in a simple private game, you will not be thrown out of the game in offline mode due to fluctuating or lost connections. If you foresee issues with the network, you can simply go offline and continue playing safely.
In solo play, you are also not exposed to nasty players. Many fans find PvP to be too unfair, which is why solo servers or offline games are a good way to get to know V Rising.
What else is in the hotfix? With the patch, the developers also fix some bugs and introduce the option to send server-wide messages. In addition, there are some new admin commands. You can find the full patch notes on Steam.
Even though V Rising has been playable for a week, you don’t need to worry about getting started. Other players may be many hours ahead of you, but in most cases, you won’t have a significant disadvantage:
