Valheim is set to receive new settings options that will allow you to make the game more difficult – and players love it.
“Are you ready for a Hardcore mode in Valheim?” asked Jonathan Smårs, one of the lead developers of Valheim on Twitter.
He showed in a video some of the settings options that Valheim will get. Many of the settings can make your gaming experience more difficult. In addition to a Hardcore mode and other presets, there will be sliders that allow you to determine how many items you lose upon death, how tough your fights should be, and how often your base is attacked.
With the various settings, you can make your game easier and, for example, switch to a relatively safe building mode or significantly increase the challenge offered by the game. The latter, in particular, is well received by some players.

What do the players say? A look at Reddit shows that many Valheim fans find the various options really good and sensible. For some players, the update sounds so good that they want to return. Especially the extreme settings seem to appeal to the players.
While some prefer the “Hammer Mode” because they can build safely and undisturbed (via Reddit), other players are looking forward to the increased difficulty.

How have the past months been for Valheim? When Valheim was released on Steam in February 2021, it surprised the gaming industry with an impressively successful release.
On average, 210,000 players played the survival game concurrently in its release month. To this day, Valheim has received over 344,000 reviews on Steam, of which a strong 95% are positive.
However, in 2022, things quieted down a bit around the surprise hit, and the average player counts fell to a low of 12,696 in October 2022.
Valheim is occasionally supplied with new content, and the title saw a peak of 56,000 average players with the Mistlands update in December 2022.
With the Ashlands, a new biome is also in the works, which will take you to a volcanic area.
