Steam has announced the best games of 2023. While some titles are not surprising, especially a 25-year-old game on this list is a surprise.
What categories has Steam awarded? Steam has announced its best games of 2023 and categorized them accordingly.
- Bestsellers (measured by gross revenue)
- New Releases (measured by gross revenue)
- Most Played (measured by peak concurrent players)
- Early Access (measured by gross revenue)
- Steam Deck (measured by peak daily active players)
- Controller (measured by daily active controller users)
- VR (measured by gross revenue)
In these categories, various games were awarded Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze.
Which game is particularly surprising this year? Of course, there are some games that probably won’t surprise anyone. It was likely expected that Baldurs Gate 3, Starfield or Cyberpunk 2077 would be among the bestsellers awarded Platinum.
These three games were also able to snag Platinum in the Steam Deck category. This is probably not particularly surprising for many either. However, a 25-year-old shooter also made it onto the list last year.
The game Half Life from 1998 also receives Platinum in the Steam Deck category. In 2023, an incredible number of players played the iconic shooter daily on their Deck.
Back in November, we reported that Half Life, after over 20 years, still ranks among the most important games on Steam.
Which games were also awarded? Among the new releases, major titles like Remnant 2, Jedi Survivor, FC24 or Hogwarts Legacy received Platinum. But for example, Sons of the Forest also snagged Platinum in this category.
Dave the Diver is also among the more well-known games from 2023, and for this, it receives Gold in the New Releases category, alongside games like Dead Space, The Finals, or Mortal Kombat 1.
A glance at the most played games of the year also reveals Baldurs Gate 3 and Starfield in the Platinum category once again. But also titles like Sons of the Forest, Destiny 2, Apex Legends or CS 2 were able to secure Platinum here.
Duck Duck Goose is likely to surprise some players in this category who have not heard of this Among-Us clone with ducks before. But this free game also received Platinum. Lethal Company, the big hit of the past weeks, still manages to secure Gold in this category.
In the Early Access category, games like Against the Storm, Farlight 84, Dave the Diver, or Demonologist managed to secure Platinum. The horror game World of Horror, which resembles the works of Junji Ito, received Gold here alongside other titles.
