In the indie scene, there are small hidden gems for practically every genre on Steam. Especially unusual genre fusions can be found in abundance. Cantata is also a fusion of several games and offers you extraordinary tactical gameplay.
What kind of game is this? You are exploring and conquering a foreign planet. As the commander of various factions, you must manage your bases, keep an eye on your troops, and pay attention to the different resources.
Threats come not only from the opposing factions but also from the planet itself, which presents hurdles in your conquest. The combat is turn-based and resembles X-COM or Into the Breach.
Fans of building games should keep an eye on the new game from the creator of The Settlers:

What else does Cantata offer?
- Extraordinary pixel graphics
- Local and online multiplayer
- 9 story chapters
- Map editor
The gameplay is a fusion of many elements from other strategy and tactical games. Base building and resource management have elements from Civilization, exploring and conquering reminds of Command and Conquer, and the active combat with units is reminiscent of X-COM and Into the Breach.
The presentation of Cantata is a highlight. The soundtrack and dialogues are complemented by the beautiful pixel graphics.

I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of this game until recently. The gameplay feels fresh and I love the art style.

I’m not an expert in tactical games, but I’m having a lot of fun with it. The characters are all very different, and every time I see a new character portrait with dialogue, I have to greet it with an “Oh” and “Ah.”
