In Fortnite: A new weapon has leaked. According to a leak, we now know what the new Burst SMG looks like and how much damage it does.
What is the Burst SMG? Since Update 9.10, the data for a new weapon has been in the game. Dataminers have now found and released them. Therefore, the new weapon likely has the following stats:
- Rarity: Gray/Green/Blue
- Damage: 23/24/25
- Fire Rate: 3.4
- Magazine: 20 (Probably light ammunition)
The weapon is, like the Combat Shotgun and the tactical assault rifle, designed for short distances. It loses about a third of its damage at medium range and over half at long ranges.
With the fast fire rate, it should deal a lot of damage at close range if all shots hit.
The Burst SMG is again a weapon in Season 9 that shines with fast follow-up and good damage at close range but is less effective at long distances. Epic wants you to get close to the enemy and flush them out of cover.
Players Laugh at New Weapon
This is what the fans say about the Burst SMG: The fans on Reddit are not particularly impressed with the new weapon so far. On Reddit, some players are already joking about the weapon’s design:
- “This is a stapler.”
- “This is not a weapon; this is a device for piercing holes in your ears.”
- “Looks like an automatic hot glue gun.”
Fans are also skeptical about the stats. The single shot damage is too low, and they do not want another close-range weapon. They simply don’t see how the Burst SMG is different from the apparently very similar tactical assault rifle.
Will this be the new shotgun? Other players on Reddit see the weapon as an SMG that wants to be a shotgun, as the damage per shot reminds them of the individual shotgun pellets from the good old shotgun that was removed in Season 9.
Perhaps the Burst SMG will ultimately find a meaningful niche in Fortnite and replace the shotgun.
When will the new weapon come? So far, we only know about the leak. The weapon has not been announced in the game. Additionally, some players suspect that it will only appear in the PvE mode Save the World, as the stats also contain information about values like “durability” that only exist in PvE.
However, this may also be redundant data, as the weapon may occur in both modes.
