Many MMORPGs stagnate at some point. The same old content keeps coming back again and again every year as if it’s “new.” But there are exceptions, namely MMORPGs that continually evolve and reinvent themselves without losing their old charm.
The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is one such game. Those who started the big Elder Scrolls MMO 12 years ago will still recognize it well today. However, an incredible amount has changed and improved, so you are now offered an even better gaming experience.
Download ESO here!If you’ve enjoyed playing ESO every now and then, then returning now is like reuniting with an old, good friend. Only this friend is now significantly more interesting and exciting than before!
The new era of ESO: More freedom, more loot, zero paywalls!
If you log in again now, you will enter a Tamriel that is more accessible, dynamic, and rewarding than ever before. Here are the features that will make your comeback to ESO a strong experience without frustration and stress.
Seasons instead of chapters: New content is now available for free!
From now on, you don’t have to spend a cent for new gameplay content! Whether the developers release brand new areas, tricky dungeons, epic storylines, or even entirely new classes and skill lines in the future: if you own the base game, you will get all of it completely free.

The community will no longer be artificially divided by paywalls. You can immediately embark on the latest adventures with your friends and guildmates without having to painstakingly check that everyone’s purchased all the additional content!
Premium DLCs moving into the base game
If you took a break after the release and didn’t jump back in because you were missing so many paid contents, your patience will now be richly rewarded!
Because three of the best and most popular premium DLCs are now permanently and freely integrated into the base game! Experience the still highly praised story of Orsinium, ease the bags of unsuspecting merchants as a member of the Thieves Guild, or become the silent assassin of the Dark Brotherhood in a particularly dark storyline. That’s hundreds of hours of award-winning premium content just waiting to be played through by you.
No more rigid routine: Welcome to the new seasonal model
Instead of releasing a large chapter once a year and then smaller bits afterwards, ESO is completely switching to a dynamic seasonal model. The start is “Season Zero,” which will definitely not be a “zero-number.”

You will regularly receive new content, fresh events, additional rewards, and exciting stories. The world of Tamriel will feel extremely lively and unpredictable again. Instead of rigid steps, the development of Tamriel will now proceed dynamically and organically, and not just according to the motto: “now it’s only this one region’s turn while the rest stands still.”
The Gold Coast Bazaar: Epic loot for effort, not for real money!
Critics of in-game shops will love this feature. With the new Gold Coast Bazaar, a completely new currency is introduced into the game, which you can earn just by playing and use to buy shop items.

With these special bars, you can acquire extremely sought-after, old items, missed ESO Plus rewards from previous chapters, and even drops from loot boxes. The highlight: 16 mounts — including the brand new Ebony Dwarven Horse — are moving from the real money shop directly to the in-game vendor!
Tamriel Codices: Your free pass for the coolest cosmetics
With the “Tamriel Codices”, ESO is introducing a new, permanent progression system. The special thing about it is that you won’t be forced to do things you don’t want to do.

You simply play your favorite feature — whether it’s PvP battles, dungeons, or relaxed questing — gradually filling your Codex and unlocking completely stress-free permanent cosmetics, titles, and visual effects.
Tougher fights and QoL upgrades
For the veterans among you, who always found the open world a bit too easy, there is now the optional hard mode for zones. This means: more risk, but significantly better loot!

Along with that come a plethora of “Quality of Life” improvements: Your riding skills will now level up noticeably faster (finally!), the previously limited furnishing limits in housing have been significantly raised in many houses (FINALLY!), and the combat system of your old favorite classes has been thoroughly dusted off and modernized.
The Night Market: Your new PvE challenge
Get ready for an exciting new event zone. In the “Night Market”, you don’t just go out for a beer at the “Späti” at night; instead, you engage in thrilling battles!

Join one of three factions and dive into a fierce PvE group game where you’ll deal with bosses and challenging encounters.
Rally your guild, master the mechanics, and earn extremely rare rewards, including a completely free house!
Finally some PvP love again: The new veteran system
Even the competitive players among you will get their due now. With the new veteran system, your time in PvP will finally be properly rewarded again. Whether you measure yourself in the battlefields, roam through the Imperial City, or siege castles in Cyrodiil: You will now continuously progress for new and account-wide armor styles, weapons, titles, and powerful perks.
All of these features are coming soon in the new Season Zero: Dusk and Dawn starting April 2, 2026. If that isn’t the perfect opportunity to finally visit Tamriel again!
