Starfield has been released. Experts were also able to look at the performance. How well does the game run on PC and Xbox?
Starfield launched on September 1 in Advanced Access. The first players can therefore already experience Bethesda’s new sci-fi epic.
But how well does Starfield actually run on PC and the Xbox? The last game releases on Steam were plagued by major technical issues and many players feared the worst for Starfield.
Meanwhile, the first performance checks of Starfield are in, and they give the all-clear, after experts were already allowed to report on the graphics of Starfield. In fact, the new sci-fi game runs excellently on Steam and Xbox, although there are still a few issues. MeinMMO explains what works well and where there are still difficulties.
Very good performance on PC and Xbox Series X
How good is the performance? Both colleagues from IGN and colleagues from Digital Foundry explain that the performance of Starfield is really excellent. And this applies to both the PC version and the console version.

- IGN adds in its YouTube video (from 7:11): “We see [in Starfield] the most stable performance of all Bethesda titles at launch in many years.”
How is the performance on PC? On PC, the game runs with Ryzen 5 5600X and Radeon RX 6800 at a resolution of WQHD with stable 45 FPS, without stutters or frame drops. Depending on the situation, however, the hardware is utilized differently.
On general planets, the GPU is challenged, while large cities with many NPCs put significantly more strain on the CPU and quickly become the bottleneck. Therefore, it is not enough to just have a strong graphics card in your computer. According to testers, an SSD is also essential, as otherwise the loading times would be unbearably long.
How does Starfield perform on Xbox Series X and S? On both Xbox consoles (Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S), the game runs steadily at 30 FPS without major fluctuations. On the weaker Xbox Series S, the game does not look as beautiful; compared to the Series X, the depth of field is lower and there are fewer details. Overall, the performance remains consistently stable. Thus, you can also enjoy the game on the Series S without any issues.
What problems exist? Aside from the good performance, there are mainly minor flaws and issues: The game’s physics can be a bit odd, as dead enemies tend to fly around strangely, ignoring normal physics.
The AI of enemies and your own companions is also said to be regularly catastrophic. Enemies sometimes just stand around and ignore fire. Allies also tend to just stand around and occasionally fail to follow commands.
