In Starfield, you can find digital picks, called Digidietriche, at every corner, and use them to unlock the locks of locked doors and chests with loot. The individual locks, however, differ in their difficulty level and require a higher level in a specific skill depending on the tier.

Using Digidietriche
Here’s how to use Digidietriche: To use Digidietriche in Starfield, you simply need to have at least one in your inventory. Then, approach a locked door, chest, or safe, and you will receive the option to use a Digidietrich and start a mini-game to unlock the lock. Just press the button displayed.
If you are facing a lock and cannot use your Digidietrich, you need a higher skill. In the skill tree, you will find the “Security” skill under the “Technology” tab. By learning this skill, you can also use your Digidietrich on locks with a higher level.
Overall, there are 4 difficulty levels for locks that can be unlocked with a corresponding rank:
- Beginner – Locks with the “Beginner” level can be attempted from the start. No additional skill is required.
- Apprentice – To use your Digidietrich on “Apprentice” level locks, you need to unlock the “Security” skill. Rank 1 is sufficient.
- Expert – A “Expert” level lock requires that you are at least level 2 in the “Security” skill to use the Digidietrich.
- Master – You can only use your Digidietrich on “Master” level locks once you have unlocked at least level 3 in the “Security” skill.
Picking Locks
Here’s how to pick locks: To unlock a lock in Starfield, you must solve the puzzle of the mini-game. You will see a circle – the lock – with some gaps in the border. You will also receive a selection of different keys on the right side, each having differently arranged blocks.
With the blocks of the displayed keys, you must fill the gaps of the circular lock. You can rotate the keys and switch between the different keys. However, not every key is needed to open a lock.
Bonus Tip: If you are unsure which keys are the right ones for your lock, it can occasionally help to count the gaps. For example, if you have 5 gaps and one key with 3 blocks, one with 4, and one with 2 blocks, you know that you only need the 3-block and 2-block keys, while the 4-block key is useless.
Finding Digidietriche
Here’s how to find Digidietriche: You can find Digidietriche in the universe of Starfield in various locations and in the inventories of deceased enemies. The appearance of a Digidietrich strongly resembles a telescope. Just keep an eye out and grab the pick as soon as you spot one.
If you ever run out of Digidietriche, you can visit a trader in the various cities and buy them for a few credits. Since Digidietriche have a mass of 0.0, you don’t have to worry about your inventory and can carry large quantities of Digidietriche without any drawback.
However, in Starfield, there are not only doors that can be opened without a key or with a Digidietrich. Certain red emergency exit doors require you to cut through four bolts with a weapon.
