Bethesda finally gets specific about Nvidia DLSS 3 in Starfield and says how and when PC gamers on Steam can enjoy higher frame rates. Mods that have even charged you for this are now unnecessary.
Without community mods, Starfield would struggle with the player base. These mods often bring new features that developer Bethesda did not deliver at launch.
These also often include quality-of-life features and additional options for graphics settings. Especially in the latter case, corresponding mods were quickly available to implement Nvidia’s graphics feature DLSS. Recently, a mod developer even threatened players who steal his DLSS mod because they do not want to pay for it. Now Bethesda is stepping in and delivering the feature with the upcoming beta update on Steam.
Beta update with official DLSS 3 integration for all Nvidia users
What exactly has Bethesda announced? On X (formerly Twitter), the Starfield developer announced a beta update that is expected to include the long-awaited graphics feature DLSS 3. This allows all users of an Nvidia RTX graphics card to activate the free performance boost in the graphics settings. In this way, Bethesda fulfills another community wish after the FOV slider.
Gamers with a graphics accelerator from the RTX 4000 series also receive the exclusive feature Frame Generation. This technique inserts a AI-generated image between two images computed by the graphics card. This makes the gaming experience feel even smoother. Provided the game is installed on an SSD storage device, Nvidia users thus achieve an even more stable frame rate.

Does the upcoming update include more? Yes, Bethesda has not yet provided official patch notes, but has given some insight. In addition to DLSS 3, the following content was mentioned for the beta update:
- Customization options for brightness and contrast settings
- Additional menu for HDR options
- Further optimizations and improvements, but Bethesda does not mention specific details here
In a follow-up to the announcement, the developer also promises to support AMD’s FSR 3 in a later update. AMD’s counterpart to Nvidia’s DLSS has been available in version 2 since the release of Starfield.
Is the beta update available for everyone? No, the download will initially be restricted to PC gamers on Steam. Additionally, you must sign up for the Starfield beta program.
To register, you need to do the following:
- Start Steam
- Search for Starfield in your library
- Right-click on the game to see the Properties option, which you now open with a left click
- In the new window, select the Betas tab and switch to the beta program here
Once the update is available, it will be offered to you as a download.
When will the beta update be available? A specific date in November is not mentioned in the announcement. Since Bethesda speaks of next week, the release can be narrowed down to between November 6 and 12.
