AMD has announced a partnership with Bethesda and Starfield. However, some players fear that this is not a good idea. Because in the background, a conflict is smoldering.
AMD has entered into a partnership with Bethesda and Starfield. Together, they want to further develop the highly anticipated game. Todd Howard from Bethesda confirmed that ‘AMD engineers are working on FSR2 image processing and upscaling in our codebase, and it looks incredible.’ Furthermore, it is said that the game is supposed to be optimized for ‘Ryzen 7000 processors and Radeon 7000 graphics cards.’
However, many gamers are rather skeptical about the idea. They fear that certain features like DLSS may not come to Starfield now. Because in the background, there are rumors that AMD is supposed to prohibit the implementation of DLSS in certain games. This was reported by the online magazine TheVerge.
AMD’s current “policy” is causing trouble among gamers
After the announcement, many wonder whether this now means that DLSS will not be released for Starfield. DLSS is an upscaling technology. Simply put, games are rendered in low resolution and then upscaled to the correct resolution. This brings significantly more performance and allows games to run better. However, many believe that DLSS is a reason why developers do not really optimize their games.
AMD now offers FSR 2.0 as an alternative to DLSS, but for many, Nvidia’s DLSS still remains the better option. DLSS is exclusive to Nvidia graphics cards, while FSR works with AMD, Intel, and Nvidia graphics cards.
Many players now believe that it is a deliberate tactic by AMD to block other technologies like DLSS (Nvidia) and XeSS (Intel). At least, this is reported by the British magazine PCGamer: AMD has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations so far. However, we are in contact with the developers and AMD and will inquire about this.
Why do many demand DLSS? DLSS is still considered by many players as a kind of “savior” because it allows even poorly optimized games to be played somewhat smoothly. Even the new Star Wars: Jedi Survivor was not playable properly with an RTX 3090.
Most players are using Nvidia graphics cards
The majority of players are using a graphics card from Nvidia. If you take a look at the current survey data on Steam, 76% of all respondents have an Nvidia GPU.
However, the two “winners” are a GeForce GTX 1650 and a GeForce GTX 1060 – both graphics cards that do not support DLSS. Only the third GPU, the GeForce RTX 3060 offers active support for DLSS.
Amid all the doubts, there could at least be some good news. If AMD really supports the development of Starfield and FSR 2.0, then Xbox players could benefit from it in the long run:
Games are expected to run smoother on the Xbox Series X soon – ideal for shooters
