The YouTuber and former Twitch streamer DrDisrespect says he offered Bethesda a collaboration on the SF role-playing game Starfield twice. But they strictly declined. Now he also understands why. He apparently categorizes Pete Hines, the head of Bethesda, as politically “woke”.
Who is DrDisrespect?
- Guy Beahm was one of the most successful Twitch streamers for many years. The former Call of Duty developer is a gifted entertainer who plays a character: In this role, he mourns his past youth, in which he was able to win two video game championships in a row.
- After a still unexplained ban on Twitch, he streams without a contract on YouTube and is one of the biggest live streamers there. He is also working on his own game and sells a bourbon brand.
- The gaming influencer often crosses boundaries. Especially his former employer Activision Blizzard and their shooter series Call of Duty seems to have captured him by now.
“Due to past controversies, there’s no way we can collaborate with DrDisrespect”
This is what he says now about Starfield: DrDisrespect said in a stream on September 1 (via youtube) that he and his team had inquired with Bethesda twice about a collaboration on Starfield:
- Once, if they could do something together for Starfield – anything?
- A second time, if he could at least play the game with some others
Both times the request was declined by Bethesda. They didn’t even give him early access to the game. The response was: “Due to past controversies, there’s no way we can collaborate with DrDisrespect.”
However, the influencer apparently didn’t understand why the collaboration didn’t come about.
What did DrDisrespect think it was about? DrDisrespect looked at Pete Hines’s Twitter profile in the stream and read there the pronouns he would like to be addressed by: he/him.
For DrDisrespect, it was thus clear why Bethesda didn’t want to collaborate with him:
“He/him. Understood. Okay, now everything starts to make sense. Everything makes sense now. Got it.”
What does he mean by that? DrDisrespect obviously believes that those who indicate their pronouns on Twitter belong to a group of people who place value on “political correctness.”
Here you can see the clip and a discussion about it:
DrDisrespect seems to believe that for these people who are “politically woke,” he is a person one would not want to collaborate with. He seems to see himself politically in a different spectrum.
DrDisrespect mainly attracted attention in his early days with some parodies and statements that even he now considers too far: Even DrDisrespect is becoming more politically correct on Twitch – No more “Chinese”
