The Senior Producer Bruce MacLean has addressed an open letter to the community of the MMORPG “Star Wars: The Old Republic” and the core message is initially negative:
The announced expansion “Galactic Strongholds” will not be released on June 24, but instead on August 19.
This delay is justified by the fact that the additional time allows the developers to provide all important features of the expansion at launch and not – as originally planned – to add them gradually throughout the year.
But what exactly do you get “more” for the two months of waiting?
- On one hand: Conquest events! With the strongholds (the namesake “Strongholds”), players will be able to wage battles over entire planets. Guilds can participate in conquests and extend their control over entire planets, but what rewards this entails is still uncertain – as well as whether it consists of pure PvE or PvP skirmishes or even a mix of both.
- The already announced guild ships will also be expanded, making it possible to enhance the members of your guild with buffs from space, or to summon entire groups of guild members to you – no matter where you currently are.
However, the new schedule also disrupts the rewards for existing subscribers.
As before, active subscribers will receive an additional 1000 Cartel Coins on May 5.
May 12 is no longer the deadline for securing early access to Galactic Strongholds; the new date for that is July 16. All players who already have an active subscription that expires after that do not need to be disappointed.
BioWare is offering compensation in the form of two titles, a pet, and still the NarShaddaa Sky Palace to all who have a subscription on May 12 – but only at the official launch of the expansion.
You can find the open letter, with a list of all features and rewards, in full here.
