Star Wars: The Acolyte is the latest series of the sci-fi franchise. Just a little over half of all episodes have been released on Disney+. However, the series is already not well received and thus ranks among the lowest-rated Star Wars series.
What is The Acolyte?
- The Star Wars series has been airing on Disney+ since June 5, 2024. So far, five of the eight planned episodes of Season 1 have been released.
- The series is set 100 years before Episode I and is part of George Lucas’s Star Wars universe. However, Leslye Headland is responsible for the new series.
- We follow the story of Mae and Lee Jung-jae. The former Padawan and her master investigate a crime during the High Republic era, in which Jedi were murdered.
Thus, The Acolyte is the first series to deal with this timeframe. The High Republic era describes the period when the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order were at their peak.

The Acolyte receives the lowest rating of all Star Wars series
How is The Acolyte rated? The series is not well received by the audience at all. On IMDb, it shows that The Acolyte is unpopular: the series only scores 3.3 out of 10 points, placing it behind Star Wars series such as:
- Star Wars: Resistance (5.3)
- Star Wars: Visions (7.0)
- Obi-Wan Kenobi (7.1)
- The Book of Boba Fett (7.29)
Even the Ahsoka series, which just started last year, has a good rating of 7.5 points. On Rotten Tomatoes, The Acolyte also receives a recommendation rate of only 13 percent, although the rate among the professional jury is a remarkable 85 percent.
What is it doing wrong? Since there have been no series or movie templates for the High Republic era so far, The Acolyte has the advantage of shaping the universe as it wants. However, this does not sit well with the fans, as the series is said to deviate too much from the original.
One example is the Wookiees, who cannot become Jedi due to their lack of Force sensitivity. But the character Kelnacca breaks this tradition, as he is even a Jedi Master.
In the comments section on IMDb, it becomes clear what else bothers the audience about The Acolyte:
- The acting is said to be terrible, the characters boring, and the dialogues wooden.
- The story development is said to be boring and uncreative. Although it is something new, it does not honor the original films.
- There are several logical inconsistencies related to both the Star Wars universe and the real world. For example, in Episode 1, a character uses a fire extinguisher, even though he is in the vacuum of space.
- Even Harry Potter is more Star Wars than The Acolyte. Only people who are not fans of the franchise have been hired for the project.
On the other hand, there are some positive comments that can find something to appreciate about the series. Although it is not a masterpiece, it provides some enjoyment while watching. Sol and Mae are said to be lovable. Have you already seen the episodes released so far? What is your opinion?
