Where the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic currently stands is a mystery for the community. Now Disney has commented on the remake, but fans still do not receive a proper answer.
What kind of remake is this? Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was meant to be the remake of the 2003 game of the same name. Since the announcement in 2021, the development status of the game and vague news have repeatedly raised concerns among fans that their dream of a remake might not come true.
Most recently, the CEO of Embracer Group went silent about the development of KOTOR, as reported by our colleagues at GameStar.
Furthermore, the question remains whether the game will actually still exist or not. Now Sean Shoptaw, Disney’s Gaming Director, has commented on the topic. However, his response was rather unclear, providing further information about the status of development only through interpretations.

What does Disney’s Gaming Director say? In an interview with Axios Gaming, Sean Shoptaw stated that Disney is just getting started when it comes to bringing its top franchises together with the best game development studios in the industry.
He also said something regarding the KOTOR remake according to Axios Gaming. However, he answered questions about the future of the remake rather vaguely. All he said about the status of things was that he actually couldn’t say much.
After that, he avoided the question with a few words of praise for the original:
At this point, for hopefully obvious reasons, I can’t say much, but KOTOR is understandably an incredibly popular game that we are really proud of and for which there is still a great demand. I’ll leave it at that.

Ultimately, this is not a concrete answer to the question, but it can be suspected that the developments are not particularly advanced. At least, unless Disney and the development teams have coordinated to surprise the fans with it in the near future.
