Charlie Hunnam revealed in an interview that he was shortlisted for the role of Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars and why, in his opinion, it ultimately failed.
Charlie Hunnam (Rebel Moon, Sons of Anarchy) disclosed in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight in December 2023 that he almost got the role of Anakin Skywalker – but an awkward meeting ruined his chance at the Star Wars villain, in his opinion.
Here you can see a trailer for Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith with Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker:
Charlie Hunnam confirmed in the interview the rumor that he auditioned for the Star Wars character Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader.
He made it so far in the selection process that he was invited to a meeting with star director George Lucas.
“I got to the point where I met George Lucas, you know? […] I don’t think he meets with a lot of actors,” the actor said.
He further mentioned that not many candidates remained in the running for the role at that time: “I think there were maybe two or three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much of it.”

However, he was quite nervous during the conversation, which led to the meeting with George Lucas being so uncomfortable that Hunnam quickly realized he would no longer get the role:
“And I just remember it being a very uncomfortable meeting, and I walked out thinking, ‘Well, I definitely won’t get the role.’ And I was right,” the actor humorously stated. “Sometimes it’s about the vibes.”
