DICE and Electronic Arts have at least partially listened to the wishes of fans of the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront and have now released an offline skirmish mode.
While it hasn’t turned into a complete single-player campaign, it is now possible to play the two game modes Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron offline and against AI enemies. You will be able to play the modes on the known maps. This way, you don’t always have to be online when you just want to play a round of Star Wars Battlefront. The skirmish mode can also be played cooperatively with a friend – even on console in split-screen mode. The update includes some bug fixes and adjustments to the game in addition to the skirmish.
Another two DLCs
Additionally, the developers provided a glimpse of what fans of the online shooter can expect in the future. The DLC Death Star will be released this September and is set to bring space battles. Players can look forward to joining the fight for the Death Star. X-Wing fighters and TIE fighters will battle in space while troops land on the Death Star and engage in battles in the corridors. The battle is expected to change. While you initially attempt to approach the Death Star, later you must land and fight your way on foot, only to get back into the fighter and fly through the known trench.
As new ships, you will find Darth Vader’s Advanced TIE and Luke’s Red 5 fighter in the game. The DLC Rogue One: Scarif is expected to be released around Christmas, likely around the launch of the movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. You will probably fight around the planet Scarif, where you attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star. A new heroine, Jyn Erso, may come into play.
Battlefront 2 is coming!
After that, DICE will focus on the development of Star Wars: Battlefront 2. The game could be released in late 2017 to coincide with the launch of the movie Star Wars Episode VII and will incorporate elements from this film. DICE will receive support this time from Motive Studios, which could indicate that we might expect a single-player campaign in Battlefront 2.
