For Star Wars Battlefront the Companion App has now been released. It includes a mini-game and a tracker for your own stats.
Electronic Arts has released the “Companion App”. What catches the eye first and can already be played is the mini-game “Base Command.” You have to defend your base against attacking imperial troops. It runs as a sort of mini tabletop game, you draw cards that serve as both “actions” and “troops.” It’s turn-based, a tactical pastime. Everyone can try it out for themselves. This page leads to the mini-game Base Command.
The gag with the mini-game: Whoever earns credits here can spend them in the game.
Only when Battlefront actually comes out on November 19 will the other functions of the app be relevant: The app displays the player’s stats and progress. Or the tinkering stormtrooper can use the app to create specific item configurations.
An app to enslave them and bind them forever!
Mein MMO says: The app is a typical part of the developer thought process “Oh God, what do we do if the player has to leave the house? Then we disappear from their life! How do we get them to think about us every 20 seconds even then? Let’s just make an app that they can check out on the bus or on the toilet and still engage with Star Wars Battlefront despite all distractions.”
The Companion App is available for iOS (via iTunes) and Android (via Google Play) or as a website.
