It has been 17 months since Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was released. Updates are regularly published, but what is the current state of the online shooter?
Is the online shooter still a topic? Star Wars Battlefront 2 has had a very eventful development since its release in November 2017. Especially the controversy surrounding loot boxes still affects the game and has led to a worldwide discussion about loot boxes and gambling in video games.
This means that Dice’s online shooter is still very much on everyone’s lips.

A Continuous Development
What is currently happening in the game? Star Wars: Battlefront 2 receives updates from time to time, some larger and some smaller. A lot has happened in recent months:
- The new game mode “Total Domination” has been introduced, which is the largest mode in the online shooter. You fight in several phases, first on the ground and then in a spacecraft.
- Count Dooku has been added as another villain.
- Anakin Skywalker has been introduced as a new hero.
- Geonosis can be played in the modes “Heroes vs. Villains”, “Galactic Assault”, and “Custom Arcade”.
- You play the new area “Geonosis – Western Pipeline Crossing” in the game mode “Total Domination”.
- There are optimizations and improvements, such as to lightsaber combat and reinforcements.
- New costumes have been introduced.
- Yoda and Darth Maul can now finally block with their lightsabers.

Fans Just Want More
What is the current state of the game? Fans now consider Star Wars: Battlefront 2 to be a significantly better game than it was at release. However, the updates are not well received by everyone. Fans simply want more. More maps and larger changes and innovations.
Many are frustrated that Battlefield 5 is currently being supported so much more by Dice than Star Wars: Battlefront 2. There is simply not enough relevant content coming for many fans.
A good example of this is the change to Yoda. He can now block with the lightsaber. Fans have wanted this for a long time, and this change has finally come. For many, it is very late and just another “minor” change.
Sierra-Alpha-Mike comments on Reddit: “After the launch fiasco and the adjustment of the business model, the concept of seasons was abandoned and everything has been delayed.”
More Updates to Come
What’s next? EA and Dice have now announced what players can look forward to until June. This includes the following content:
- Three new locations from the Clone Wars era for the game mode “Total Domination”.
- A revamp of the core mechanics of the “Heroes vs. Villains” game mode. Among other things, the objective system will be removed.
In general, there are still many fans who enjoy playing Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Dice continues to work on new updates. So, those who still enjoy playing the online shooter have plenty to do in the future.
