Will the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront 2 bring Pay2Win elements into the game through loot boxes?
Star Wars Battlefront 2 offers all upcoming DLCs for free. While Electronic Arts and Dice made money from selling DLCs for the first part, which financed further development and server infrastructure, this is different for the sequel.
In Star Wars Battlefront 2, loot boxes come into play, containing random Star Cards.

Loot Boxes offer Star Cards with boosts
You use Star Cards in the shooter to gain more health points, temporarily boost your weapon, or gain a special ability. They are very useful and play a significant role in how well you perform in the game and which side wins.
You obtain loot boxes with Star Cards in the game by collecting credits from winning matches. However, you can also buy the boxes for money. As Electronic Arts announced, you can also purchase several of the boxes for money.
Buying more boxes increases your chance for legendary items
Now concerns are rising from the fans that this could lead to a Pay2Win element. Because if someone buys many of the loot boxes, they have access to more Star Cards and can use them in battles to gain advantages. Currently, it is still unclear how significant these advantages will be.
The boxes can contain loot of epic and legendary quality, which can provide a noticeable advantage. If someone buys many loot boxes, they also increase the chance of finding these items.
Players are now concerned that a player could buy a lot of boxes right at the start of the game and then be so strong in the game due to the Star Cards that they could lead the leaderboards for months. Not because they are that good, but because they have so many boosts from the purchased Star Cards. Whether this is truly the case, we will have to see. Electronic Arts should ensure that such situations do not ruin the fun for others.
